In buns of golden warmth, a delight, Weaving flavors that tickle with every bite, A hot dog emerges, a tantalizing sight, With mustard, relish, and onions to excite. First, a smear of mustard, vibrant and bold, Its zesty embrace, like sunshine untold, A burst of tang, a kick that's oh-so-bold, Enhancing each morsel, a story untold. Then comes the relish, a sweet-tart surprise, Dancing on taste buds, as joy multiplies, Its pickle essence, a delightful prize, A symphony of flavors, all harmonize. And atop this masterpiece, onions reside, Their crunchy presence, a savory guide, A savory dance as they mingle and hide, Bringing depth and texture, sincere and fried. With each mouthful, a symphony of bliss, A hot dog encounter that's hard to dismiss, Mustard, relish, and onions, a trio of this, A divine culinary tale, don't you miss!

Have gone by for years and wanted to stop. Finally did today. Had Beef on Weck (it’s “weck” not “wick,” as many seem to write here), fries and a drink. There was plenty of beef on the sandwich and horseradish was good. As far as the sandwich goes, the roll should be harder, the beef was fine, but had clearly been soaking in a hot tray for a while. When that happens, the beef loses its flavor. Still it was a little better than average. Best to slice the beef to order, if that’s what you’re known for. Also allows for the beef not all to be too well-done. Many like it a little rare and this was cooked a bit too much. Since I’m from Buffalo, I might be a little picky, but there are ways to make it better and Pok-A-Dot can! The fries were good. The server was nice and made sure I had all I needed. A cool place. Old school!

While visiting family in the area, we decided to grab a quick lunch at the Pok-A-Dot diner since we were craving a good beef on weck. It said on the window that they’ve been famous for them for over 70 years, so we were definitely drawn in. Compared to others I’ve had, I found this one to be a bit dry, and it didn’t completely win me over. My fiancé had a hot dog that was pretty burnt. Good cheese curds though. Seating was definitely limited and it was hard to even find a table for three. I don’t see us rushing back on future visits.

The building itself made me turn and look at it. Its a small little building with an old school type of feel to it. There isnt much seating inside of the building and they do have some outside seating too. There is an additional room where you can get takeout and eat also.

Reading the reviews to this place I thought this is a must try in Batavia. I ended up going into the takeout room since I thought it led to the main building but it didnt. I read a lot of reviews about the Beef on wick for this place and how good it is. Apparently, this sandwich is a western Ny favorite as just about every place Ive eaten at so far in Batavia has its own version. I figured this place must be the best since its been around so long.

I also ordered the fried mushrooms. I had a side of ranch and horseradish for my food. After I got my food, the fried mushrooms were nice and crunchy. They were fried well as there wasnt a lot of oil that was sitting in my little dish of them and they didnt taste oily either. My sandwich was decent but not as enjoyable as I was hoping it would be. The top of the roll was a little soggy and salty. Perhaps they dip it into some Au jus but it didnt look like it had been. The salt I would guess is just from the roll itself. The meat wasnt as tender as Id hoped. It didnt have a lot of flavor or seasoning to it unfortunately either. From the picture of it on there restaurant, I was expecting it to be more on the mid-rare/ medium cook. I added my sauce mix of ranch and horseradish together. It helped make it a bit more enjoyable.

Overall, I was a little underwhelmed by the sandwich they seem to advertise as there star. I was expecting to enjoy it more but a little dissappointed. I realize its a local favorite spot and has a lot of repeat customers. Just my experience I felt wasnt as good as others. Would I give it another try? Yes, I would. Ill just have to try another option there as I would hope to have a more enjoyable...

We stopped as we were passing through Batavia as we saw the sign advertising Beef on Weck. Not knowing what is was, we looked it up online and found it was an area speciality and turned right around. We ordered the beef on weck with horseradish and mixed peppers(sweet and hot) as well as a fried bologna with onion sandwich and onion rings. The kids both got the chicken finger platter with fries.

The beef on weck was great. It could have used more horseradish, but the meat was flavorful and juicy and the peppers added just a bit of heat. The rolls were very fresh and held up to the juiciness of the sandwich without falling apart. We had gotten the order to go and I was considering going back for another sandwich. If I get anywhere in the area, I plan to go back just for this. If you have the appetite, get more than one.

The bologna and onion was excellent as well. I got it as it reminded me of eating them as a kid and I was not disappointed. One thing to note is the bologna was only lightly fried. My preference is for some crispiness or sear so if I went back, that is what I would request. The onions were so carmelized they were almost jammy and were fanatastic.

The onion rings were very good as well. They were handmade, but on the thinner side. Very crispy. The kids loved the chicken fingers and fries. I had a bite of the chicken fingers and they were really good. The chicken was flavorful even without the breading. They obviously take pride in their cooking.

All around, we had a great meal and...

I have never seen a place fill up like I did here for slack food and service. It's very small and cramped. It wasn't the cleanest place that I have visited, the service was extremely slow and the food was sub-par for the price. Double Cheeseburgers were on a tiny paper plate that barely fit the Burgers and the bun was soaked with burger fat and coagulated blood which is very unappetizing. French Fries were over cooked and hard, and they only had a Cook and a Waitress with both handling money and food without washing their hands, which is a red flag for me being in food service for several years. No gloves were use by either employee. No head cover by either employee. Cross contamination is out of control here. I will never go back and I highly recommend that YOU don't eat here. Unless you like everyone's germs from currency and coins on your food. If I didn't have my Granddaughter with me I would have said something. I do know one thing, this is the type of place Robert Irvine would tear apart. Who knows if the defusers on the drink fountain have ever been cleaned and who knows if the ice machine has gunk on the drip tray. It's safe to say that it's a place to consider for cross contamination and if you value your health, eat somewhere else. I will be calling that countys health department for sure. Just absolutely disgusting and very...
