Great atmosphere and decent food. I'd go back, but I'd try something else on the menu.
Great atmosphere. There’s just something about the lighting, the use of the long area, and putting a modern spin on an old building that is really cool. Modern chairs to sit in and talk while you’re waiting for a table, a pretty lengthy bar, and a nice area in front for a band is a plus. Let’s not forget the bakery that is separate but inside, and the large corn hole area built towards the back - Eli Fish is truly unique.
The only con about the design is that it just seems straight up loud, especially for a place that has such an extensive restaurant area. It was hard for my father, who has hearing aids, to be able to focus on just our discussion because of the amount of noise he was receiving, and had to turn down his hearing aids to be able to enjoy himself comfortably.
As a designer, I really loved the handwritten drink choices at the bar and the signage throughout the building. Unfortunately that doesn’t really follow through to their menu, which is just a printed out piece of white paper. For such an interesting place, it’s weird to see how they skimped here, but I’m not sure if this is an oversight, or a choice because their menu changes, but on that note, the menu didn’t seem to change from when I went to Eli Fish a few months ago. The food was good. We got the pretzels again, which are SO GOOD and come out nice and hot, but the cheese was quite sweet. Honestly, it's not so bad because these pretzel sticks are killer!
My husband opted for the pork belly burger and loved every bit of it. His only comment was the pork belly was so thick, it was more like brisket - but he ate the entire thing like he inhaled it, so don’t necessarily take that as a bad thing!
I ordered the Jambalaya since the first time we went to Eli Fish, and at that time, I was VERY impressed with the amount of sausage and shrimp in it, and it had a decent amount of rice in it. I enjoy my Jambalaya with more rice than vegetables… Unfortunately, between now and the last time, they changed the way this plate was made. The amount of vegetables in the Jambalaya outweighed the tiny pieces of sausage and the 2 chunks of chicken I was able to find. It was incredibly disappointing considering how much I loved this the last time we went. The kicker was the small amount of shrimp put on it as well. I felt like I was digging to be able to be eating more than just a spicy vegetable broth. For closer to $20, you might be expecting a lot more protein in the way of meat than you’re actually getting.
Service was alright. We were there at 6:30 on a Saturday and waited for 30 minutes to be seated but ended up at the high top bar table. My husband ordered a flight as soon as we sat down but didn't get it until he was eating his entree. Our waitress seemed a little pre-occupied, but I can chalk that up to them being busy this time.
I really would come back, but I would absolutely order something else...
Read moreI grew up in Pavilion and once I moved to Rochester, never dreamed I would have my reception at a place in Batavia. Before we landed on Eli Fish for our wedding reception, we looked at a number of venues from Rochester to Buffalo, none of them nailed our vibe. Eli Fish has a big city style with a small town approach to their guests. We approached Shannon Maute at Eli Fish in the winter about hosting our wedding at the venue. They had never shut downs the restaurant for a full event prior, but they were on board! Shannon and Sam (a fabulous chef!) expertly guided us through this event with ease! Not only was our wedding a massive success, but my husband Adam and I looked forward to meeting with them every step of the way. They were open and receptive to every crazy idea we had. Every time we stopped in, Shannon, Sam and the servers and bar staff knew us, and were as excited about our special day as we were. The day was perfect in every way, thanks to Shannon, Sam and the rest of the amazing Eli Fish team. Shannon was on top of small details-from signs with our name to making sure candles set correctly and making sure our day was perfect! The night started with appetizers (they were so good some of guests didn’t realize dinner was coming!), they went above and beyond by created custom cocktails and even a beer with our name on it!, dinner was delicious and abundant. The servers professional, and attentive! Our guests could not say enough good things about the staff! They were still as excited and happy to be part of our day as our guests! We couldn’t be more thrilled with our reception at Eli Fish and we sing their praises to everyone we know. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for any event-...
Read moreWe were passing through Batavia, New York on a Monday night. It looked like the only brewery in town that was open was the Eli Fish Brewing Company. The menu looked intriguing and the beer sounded good. We were not disappointed. Service was wonderful. We were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess who welcomed us. She accepted that we were traveling brewery tourists, and got us a sticker to share with our local Brewery. Our waitress promptly offered Waters and multiple menus. I will share some of those, but the regular menu was too extensive to copy here. We chose the Schwartz beer and the Vienna Lager. Those were quite acceptable. I would have no problem coming back for more of those another night. I had the Maple Sunshine for dessert, which was more of an acquired taste. The pizza of the month, McKenna's Bruschetta, was quite wonderful with a thick but light tasting crust, just the right amount of cheese and lots of flavor with the oil and garlic base, mozzarella, grilled chicken and fresh bruschetta. A side salad was not on the menu, but they provided one, which proved perfect for my wife. The place will seat quite a crowd, so I doubt you will be shut out if you show up on a busier night than a Monday. They even have games to keep the kids busy if you want to spend a little more. (I think parents always love a chance to have the kids busy somewhere else.) I have to give this place a 5/5. If you are passing through or a local,...
