Long story short - Amazing food! Would recommend and 100% coming back
I usually never go for Bicol Express because I find other places make it not that flavorful and creamy. But that was the complete opposite here! I was also intrigued that they made it a seafood Bicol express, that’s the main reason why I wanted to try it. And I’m glad I did! It was my favorite dish! I loved it so much I tried to make my own at home (wasn’t as good so I’m just gonna have to come back)
We also got the BBQ chicken which was sooo flavorful. We really liked the sauce for it. We got the Inihaw pork which was perfect grilled. The Bangsilog was a 10/10 and the lumpia was so well cooked! Sometimes lumpia is not that crispy and we were nervous because we got it to go. But the lumpia had the perfect crunch when we bit into it.
I usually don’t got crazy for pancit but this was definitely the best I’ve tried! So much vegetables and meat. They definitely did not skimp out.
Lastly we got the Halo halo and cassava cake. The only regret was getting 1 of each because we had to share with 4 other people 😂 The Cassava cake was not too sweet (which is was we preferred) and crispy on the edges (our favorite part). The Halo halo had so many topping! Leche flan, nata de coco, jackfruit, beans, everything! Again they did not skimp out!
The best part was the food felt really clean and not too oily/greasy. Filipino food is usually like that but we were able to have multiple rounds without feeling too weighed down.
The owner, Champ, and his team Nick and Gabe were so welcoming and friendly. We really loved the...
Read moreI first had Champ's (owner) food when he was doing pop-ups at Wolf Hollow Brewing Company in West Glenville. Now he has a brick and mortar restaurant of his own. For me, Filipino food is nostalgic. It brings back memories of home. I would venture to guess that Filipinos rival Italians in making food their love language. Champ does not disappoint. On the menu for tonight: Lechon Kawali, Lumpia, and Ube ice cream. It's a nice touch that Chee-Bog offers phonetic spellings of each of their menu items. Let's cut to the chase. Lechon Kawali - it's basically deep fried uncured bacon/pork belly, served with a lechon sauce (traditionally made with chicken liver, breadcrumbs, garlic, onion, brown sugar). The lechon is served with two ice cream scoops worth of white rice, a little fried garlic, and topped with quick pickled cucumber. If you like pork, this is guaranteed to make both you and your cardiologist happy. Lumpia - Filipino egg roll (pork and veggies) served with duck sauce and/or sawsawan (Filipino dipping sauce). Use the sawsawan for the lechon too. Ube ice cream - ube is a purple yam, one of the most Instagrammable ingredients due to its unique color. It lends a subtle sweet potato flavor to the ice cream. The riot of color and added crunch is provided by some Fruity Pebbles cereal. Filipino food is getting it's time in the spotlight now thanks to chefs like Champ as well as Chris Mauricio of Harana Market...
