These kind of restaurants have been popping up a lot recently especially in the Rowland Heights area. There are at least 4-5 that I can think of in the top of my head. YinTang is one of the original/first ones that opened and they still stood as one of the better ones. For those of you that are new to these restaurants. Its basically they have a spicy soup base that have options from mild to very spicy and some have non spicy soup base. There is a counter where You get to have a basket and put the food you want into it. There are many options ( beef, lamb, seafood, veggies, noodles, etc ). After you put your food into the basket, you go to the cashier and they will weigh the basket and depending on their price per pound, thats how much you need to pay. You will tell them the soup base you want and spice level for it. You then get to go back to your assigned seat and they will cook it for you. Usually takes them about 5 minutes and server will take it out to you.
YinTang is locate: in a strip mall plaza right off at the corner of the exit of Fullerton and 60 West. Location is convenient to find and go. The parking is not huge but enough for cars to park there for those businesses. Lunch time and dinner time often can be busy but from the handful of times I have been there, even if they are busy, we never needed to wait to get seated.
The interior setting here is bright and can seat maybe at least 40 people and it can have moderate noise level. They do have music playing as well so although it is not extreme loud with all the people speaking and music, this isn’t the quiet place you are looking for.
Cleanliness level is moderate. Not the best but not dirty. Server will organize the food counter or add food to the empty tray. Cashier / server is friendly.
Food / soup base wise, i like it here more than other places because I’m not someone that can handle spicy food. They mild spicy is exactly what I wanted or should be because you can still taste it but to a point a person that can’t handle it can still eat it but other places, their mild is not even mild and more to spicy level. ( my friend who can handle spicy can taste it and tell ). Soup is pork bone broth and it is tasty. Meat quality is decent based on what you pay for.
Overall, this is one of the recommended place to go in rowland heights if you want a good experience.
I didn’t give it a 5 star because the place / restroom can be a little more clean although its...
Read moreOverall very disappointing and poor services. I went to yintang with my classmates today and we waited for over 40 minutes, and no food nor water was serve. We ask to cancel our order after 40 minutes wait time and we are in hurried to go back to class. Fyi. we ask 3 times in between since the other party that ordered at the same time is already eating. The waitress was very rude and say we cannot cancel the order since the food is ALMOST done and is cooking. I say we have to go and we can't wait any longer since we already waited a long time. I mean really, all we ask for was to cancel an order that is not ready and waited a long time for and just had to leave. Thats all we ask for, but the waitress have to make a big fuss out of it and start giving attitudes. The waitress rolled her eye and trying to put all the blame on us that we didn't let her know we are in a hurry before, which we did. She is making all excuses that we didn't tell her ahead of time that we are in a hurry and should order to go instead. So does she mean that if we ordered to go, it would be faster than dining in? I notice that they are taking a lot of delivery orders in between, which is slowing down the food serving for dining in. We pay the same amount of money and we do expect the same service, and sadly we didn't get the customer services we deserve. My classmates and I ended up leaving the restaurant with empty stomach and very upset that we wasted our lunch break for...
Read moreMy second time trying malatang. This place was pretty spacious in the same plaza as Starbucks. Plenty of parking, and easy to find. The staff were quite nice! When you go in, you grab what you want first and you bring it to the staff member at the front. There you choose what broth and your bowl gets weighed. You don’t pay until the end, which I don’t understand.
The food and broth were quite good. I got the original flavor. There was a ton of different food you can put into your bowl. The only issue I had was that the food labels on the wall were not correct to what the food was. For example the beef label was flipped with the lamb. It would be ok for me, but if someone didn’t know the difference and they didn’t like it, it would be a problem. Another thing is that the tongs you use to grab the food, there isn’t any separate ones, so I imagine there can be quite a lot of cross contamination if someone is not careful.
Despite those things, i did still have a good experience, and I hope they make some changes in case someone may be allergic to something....
