De Filippis Bakery — Restaurant in City of Middletown

i went in to ask the question if they do fondant cakes and i asked to view an albumb. at first i saw something that i liked but really wanted something closer to the theme i was doing. The lady said that they do make fondant cakes, but I didn't feel too convinced, she showed me some pic i liked it to layes because i did not need 3, OK. I agreed, So I went with buttercream instead of fondandt it was cheaper. She went to the back and asked the baker if he could do it and she said to me he said yes at first they were charging me for the deoration lol. So we left it at that I just want the cake. my son was going pass by on a later day day to drop off the picture, but my son couldnt make it because he had to work.

I asked my friend if she could go in on my behalf with my son. they went at the beginning of the week with my son on my behalf. I have stage 4 bc have lost my vochals and is difficult to understand me if you are not close to me.

The first lady who took the order was not there so a spanish girl who I saw the first time when we were placing the 1st order was standing by and listening to us taking about the order. She took a new order because she didnt undertand the first lady's writting and crossings. I asked my friend to ask the girl to ask the baker if it would be possible to do the decorations in fondant So she asked the girl, went to ask the baker and when my friend turned around my son saw her make smerk faces behind my friends back and said to her at one point we will need a deposit.

It didnt surprise me because she didnt seem to be very friendly maybe my condition intimidated her or maybe she really is not a nice individual. The baker said that someone will call me on Thursday at 1 no one did.So I called and asked can he make it? same rude girl said that he doesnt know but that he does know that there will not be fondant decorations. So I asked does he know how to draw the designs since he doesnt want to do the fondants for all I know he just can do is sticks andd no decorations butter cream people a black and white polka dots on the top and bottom white with some music notes I wish I could upload simplest thing. she said NO so I asked then why did he say that he can do the designs.This girl is just rude and needs some some serious customer service skills. and that baker should stick to doing wedding cakes. Michaels and ACMoore offers fondant cake making classes. theres nothing wrong being so old schoo, but when you delay my plans I'm going to shout your lack of services

Beware of This place!!! They are always over charging people. every time I go we usually get the same order, sometimes they charge us less and sometimes they try to overcharge us by like $14.00 this is unacceptable and certainly not how you conduct buisness!!! Their prices should be set and you should always get what you pay for!!!! We use to be regulars here as well as family and friends but with the terrible service and the inconsistency and always being overcharged and not getting what we pay for we will not be returning. For example a dozen of cookies now cost 12.00 and they give you a tiny box with like 8 cookies which is clearly not even half a dozen no matter how many times you weigh the box!!! We use to spend 10.00 for a dozen of cookies and we would get a big box full of cookies!!! Now the prices go up and we get a small box of that don’t even add up to nowhere near a dozen!!!! The owner of this establishment needs to fix these issues before this business gets a really bad rep and they start to lose a lot of customers!!!! It all starts by being honest with your customers, and giving them what they pay for!!! Not overcharging them and ripping...

This place used to be good about 2 decades ago. Little by little it has gone to trash. The rolls are of lower quality since they were bought out by someone of different than Italian background(Rockland bakery type). The quality of the buns is also subpar, cakes are old or frozen from weeks ago. It’s really sad this used to be the only good bakery around and now you’ll be embarrassed to take someone a cake from here and realize it is so old it is crumbling. Let’s not even mention how overpriced everything is. Also, since when is the last name Defilippis 2 words? lol

Edit after employe response: there is no one specific problem, it’s the overall lower quality of the product/service. I know the inside and out of that bakery from where they store the boxes for wholesale and the many trucks they destroy during those deliveries, to the dilapidated rooms upstairs from the bakery. so no there is no “robust system” to mitigate anything also they pay less than minimum wage AND off the books. The state should look into that, workers shouldn’t be taken...
