This cozy, unassuming Mexican restaurant was the nicest surprise. We’re visiting town for the first time and decided to have lunch before hitting the road. San Cristobal was located in a downbeat industrial-like area. At first, we thought we’re going to regret trying it. That fear increased briefly the moment we walked in and a customer drinking coffee at the counter turned to us with an ill-disposed look. But just a moment later we’re sitting at this peculiar room, on chairs and tables decorated with rustic paintings of Mexican rural life, all very colorful and uplifting. Thanks to Covid-19, I assume, the small eating room was nearly empty at noon on a Saturday. We ordered the house stake with soft tortillas and a cactus salad. They served chips and salsa as we waited. The whole atmosphere was homey, and so was the food. The after-lunch coffee was disappointing, but the bill was about right. Do stop by when you’re around.

I've visited San Cristobal more than three times in the past month, and I can't say enough good things about this place! The customer service is top-notch—they're always welcoming, friendly, and make you feel like family. The food is absolutely delicious, every dish packed with authentic flavors that never disappoint. While the space is a bit small, I actually love it; these intimate spots are often the hidden gems for foodies. The margaritas are fantastic, but be cautious if you're ordering our bill got up there quickly. Seven margaritas later, though it was totally worth it for the quality and experience. Overall, this is by far the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in Middletown, and I can't wait to come back for more. Highly recommend!

One of my favorite restaurants in Middletown, we order from San Cristobal at least 2x a week. Their food is amazingly delicious, always fresh & their staff is super accommodating. We love their Pozole which comes with 2 regular tostadas which are quiet delightful. The Pozole is fresh, the broth has a nice thickness to it & the seasoning is always on point. Their variety of tacos placeros is plentiful, one of our favorite is Papas con Chorizo & extra fried hot peppers. We also enjoy their piña coladas & their flan 🍮 Give them a try! Delicious food always takes a hot minute & they do an outstanding job at getting everything done in a timely manner!

They serve Chipotle Mayo, which has bio-engineered ingredients (hence why it’s cheap)- look for it in shoprite, walmart etc & read the labels’ fine print. You’ll see all the brands of “Chipotle” flavored mayonnaise happen to say “bio-engineered” in fine print.

Although i like most of what i’ve tried (except their beans, they’re not blended into a puree like athentic mexican beans), the problem is they use Chipotle Mayonnaise.

If you don’t know about the chipotle mayonnaise being bio-engineered, you would most likely be served chipotle mayo (instead of the usual authentic mexican red sauce) and have no idea your feeding bio-engineered synthesized materials to your kids, yourself, your family or friends. They never mention that they use chipotle mayo, it just shows up with your meal instead of mexican red sauce.

This restaurant would be great if they decided not to use cheap GMO (genetically-mutated organisms) or Bio-Engineered products in their food. Especially with their prices so high.

Bottomline, don’t eat the synthetically engineered sauce (which they serve whether you ask for it or not). Don’t buy their beans. Prepare yourself for some high prices but for good portions. Do all this and you’ll have a good...
