I’ve been meaning to try this bakery since they opened, but they close at 2pm and I’m not usually on that side of town before then. I follow them on FB and for some reason I got the idea that it was a Mexican bakery. I was looking forward to getting some of the pastries I grew up having. Unfortunately, they aren’t a traditional Mexican bakery like I am familiar with. My first disappointment was when walking through the door. The place does not smell like a bakery. When you go in a bakery, you expect to smell something that triggers your need to have what’s baking; not here. There are many items in the cases to choose from, but most of them are all the same color…brown. Either from baking or from chocolate, but various shades of brown. It doesn’t help that the cases don’t have lighting, so it’s hard to see the items also. There are empanadas in a warming case, but they all looked like misfits. Those were not very uniform and you can’t smell those either. They have cake and pie slices, but they are already sliced in little plastic containers. And again, no lighting in the case, so you can’t really tell what they are. They sell cannolis, although it’s misspelled on the sign in the front window. They recently started selling smoothies and coffee drinks. But I think they should focus on the baked goods, in my opinion. After looking over the cases a few times, I decided on an Almond and Cream Danish-$3. My first bite was terrible. It was very dry, tough and hard as seen (and heard) in my videos. I’m not sure if it was in the case too long or if it’s a bad recipe. I ended up throwing it away. I really wanted to support the local business, but I was completely disappointed...
Read moreI preordered a special birthday cake a month prior from another bakery and went to pick it up Friday morning. It was nothing like what I asked for and after 7 other calls to local bakeries, Luso's picked up and saved me. The woman I dealt with was so friendly and couldn't have been more kind while I sobbed my way through my problem. She promised no miracles for my short timeframe but that's exactly what she delivered. Despite being the only person working and handling her other personal/professional responsibilities, I picked up an amazing cake in less than 4 hours and was able to make it to my boyfriend's surprise party in Syracuse with half an hour to spare. I couldn't have asked for a better, more personalized experience than if I had picked this local gem from the beginning. The shop was brimming with fresh pastries while we did my consultation, the price was beyond fair for the challenge she accepted and she reopened outside of normal hours to make sure I got my cake in time. I wish I had caught her name on that visit but she's got a customer for life now so I'm sure I will in future visits. (The purple cake was my inspo and the red is what she was able to create in 4 hours. The German chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream was an...
Read moreThis is the best bakery I've found. It's convenient to get to, and I've tried a variety of her goodies that are simply mouth-watering!! I called her a few days before to see if she could accommodate an order for a special type of cake. It's called a Tres Leche cake. She was so pleasant to talk to over the phone, and she answered all my questions. I was delighted when I was able to pick up the cake within a few days! My whole family loved the cake. It was their new favorite. My niece, who had tried this cake before, stated this was the best tasting cake she had!! The cake was moist & and delicious, and the added touch of the cinnamon really brought it together!! I'll definitely be back to order from her again!! I suggest trying they Tres Leche, Buck Eyes, or even her carrot...
