So here's the thing: I try and always be fair but this was a ROUGH experience. I am not clear if this is normal but it does seem to happen to others as I read the other reviews. We went here on a Friday night which should be A game night but it seemed that the team was having an off night. Number one, the male chef seemed to be really stressed out speaking to his one employee in an extremely gruff and demeaning nature. I know nothing of the politics or relationships here but I kind of shouldn't have to when I eat. There was some swearing and rough language used all around by this gentleman and for me it was extremely off putting. Second, we were there FOREVER. Nearly 90-100 minutes with maybe 15 mins of that after the food was delivered. We sat at the bar which the chef guy was using as a prep area for things like raw fish. The kitchen area looked a crazy mess when we arrived - maybe they had just finished a catering event? The food was sadly not worth the wait since my Mac and cheese was very fresh out of the microwave and the jerk chicken was sort of off-thought it was only BBQ chicken. I asked about this and the response was that it was definitely jerk chicken. The chef also stepped up in a seemingly friendly way but I sure wasn't going to question the food after I saw his treatment of staff. I ate the part that wasn't too microwavey and we closed our check. The waitress was nice enough but I felt sorry for her having to manage so many things by herself as the place slowly filled up. Also- dude on sax was great but he definitely didn't need his mic setup in such a small space but I repeat he was excellent. Wife has done takeout and it has been okay previously. Sad to say I don't think I...
Read moreI've been Jonesing for ribs, and most barbecue around here is dried up and not that flavorful.
I happen to be in Poughkeepsie for work last night, and I saw that the old mole mole was a barbecue joint, turned right around went in.
Walking through the door, they were playing good blues, good old blues, at a decent volume, which was really a nice welcome.
I see that they have live music sometimes, which is great, and I'm looking forward to going back for that.
The young lady who served me, who was really good and really nice, said that this is kind of a soft opening. That they were doing some kind of joint thing with Molly Mole and Molly Mole pulled out.
I know that Mole Mole is having issues, and I'm sad to see them go, but this place was great. It isn't totally transitioned to itself, they don't have a liquor license, they still have a sign for margaritas up on the wall from when it was mole mole.
. The ribs were perfect.🍖🍖🍖
Tender just the right amount of sauce. The sauce was really really good. The coleslaw, which is not my favorite thing cuz people usually don't do it right was perfect.
The coleslaw sauce mixed with the barbecue sauce was really good which is unheard of.
🍠🍠🍠The yams were falling apart perfect, but not too mushy, not too solid, and really nicely spiced.
They were out of collards, I'm going to go back just for collards sometime next week.
Cuz they looked good in the photos in the reviews and everybody said they were good and I can't wait to have them.
So many people up here make collards way too underdone and floating in watery sauce or absolute mush and these look perfect in the photos so I can't wait...
Read moreIf I could choose more than 5 stars I would. I don't usually take the time to write restaurant reviews but for Geneva's I couldn't hold back. I ordered the Fried Chicken with Macaroni & Cheese and Collard Greens. They provided a small skillet of wonderfully moist and perfectly sweetened cornbread. Once food came and upon first bite the masterfully seasoned macaroni & cheese, delightfully tasty collard greens with large chunks of what I think was smoked ham hocks along with the seasoned crispy chicken deserved this generously portioned meal top honors. Give Geneva's clean, comforting and classy restaurant along with their first class Southern Hospitality staff, atmosphere and live music a chance; you will not be...
