Coleman’s is the place to be on St Patrick's Day! My friends and I continue the tradition of celebrating the holiday on Tipperary Hill and Coleman's is where we start and end the day. Always a festive Irish Pub ambiance and service is on point even on a crowded holiday. They kept the green beers flowing with live music and bag pipes pipering. I ordered Shepherds pie and an Opened Faced Reuben to go, which were delivered promptly even with the crowd. I loved the Shepherds pie, devoured the creamy comfort food in minutes. I will definitely be ordering that again. The open faced Reuben did not keep well as a to go order but I'm sure is delish when served fresh! I ordered fries as a side and was surprised with the yummy little round cottage fries! We always have a great time at Coleman's!
Another great visit to Coleman's! A great evening with BFF and her out of town siblings. Great food these are just a few of the dinners ordered, the beef on weck was one of the best I've had in the area. Fresh kimmelweck roll, horseradish with a kick, and Au Jus, I wish the roast beef was more rare than well but still excellent. Others enjoyed steak cooked to order, fish, grilled chicken sandwich, mash and bangers, love the round fries that are actually chips in Ireland. Julie provided attentive service with a smile and grace! Always love the authentic Irish vibe at the restaurant and bar. We then ventured to the outdoor venue with Arcade performing. Really fun 80's band! Outdoor beverages in two locations out back, both were only a quick wait time. Outdoor flatscreens for sport events, and a food truck serving hot dogs out back!...
Read moreAlthough corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots is not a regular menu item in Ireland, it is very popular in Irish pubs in America and Canada. Coleman's serves the best example of this dish I've ever had. Try it and ask for malt vinegar for the perfectly cooked cabbage, butter for the carrots and potatoes, and hot mustard for the tender corned beef. It's a delicious feast for a very reasonable price. It goes very well with a side order of soda bread for sharing. Also, I highly recommend the french onion soup as a starter. It's as good as the one I make using Alton Brown's recipe. (If you know that recipe, you'll know how good Coleman's soup is.) The service is always friendly and efficient. POST PANDEMIC UPDATE: Returned after more than a year of not eating in restaurants. For lunch I ordered a brisket sandwich and my wife ordered the scallops. Both were very good. For dessert, we shared an excellent peanut butter brownie sundae. We also shared an appetizer of Bantry Bay Shrimp because it's menu description sounded like Bang Bang Shrimp. It was quite good, but a far cry from the Bonefish Grill shrimp appetizer. UPDATE-2: A hot pastrami sandwich on a pretzel bun was offered as a special when I recently returned to Coleman's. I requested Thousand Island Dressing instead of mustard as a condiment for the sandwich and it was great. UPDATE-3: Had the open-faced Reuben. Kind of dry. Asked for extra thousand island dressing. That helped, but probably won't order it again. UPDATE-4: I tried the Guinness Irish Stew in a bread cup. Good flavor, nice vegetables, and...
Read moreWe stopped at Coleman's since it is right around the corner from the zoo. Our party had 8 people. When my husband went in to get a table while I waited for the rest of our party to park, they informed us that there were no tables in the restaurant to seat a party of 8 except this one table that looked like it could BARELY squeeze in 5. At this point we've all entered the restaurant and then they said we could sit outside. It was decent enough outside and we really didn't feel like jumping around so not a big deal. Our waiter was kind enough. Clearly it was an annoyance to have to keep coming outside but I don't know, maybe they should have tables that seat more that 5 adults. We ordered various soups, apps, and entrees. The kids menu portions are huge. The burger my son got was the same size as an adult's! My corned beef and cabbage wasn't anything special. The cabbage was cooked nicely, same with the carrots but the corned beef pieces I was given were chewy and tough in texture. The Irish fries are cut potatoes which were good as well. We were completely forgotten about, outside. So we waited about 20 minutes for the check. My husband had to go inside and ask for it and they looked shocked that there were even people that were outside, clearly forgetting about us.
Overall this place is highly standard and nothing to write home about food or service wise. For the price we will not be back when we're in town. Which is disappointing since there are tons of raving reviews...
