Edit: It breaks my heart to hear that Danzers is closing for good and apparently turning into Syracuse's 294,822nd Sports Bar/Pizza Pub style restaurant. I guess we Syracusans just can't get enough of that tacky junk. Get in and check out this one of a kind gem while you still can. The menu is a little smaller, some slow sellers have been removed, but the staples are all there, and it is just as good as ever. I have so many happy memories at Danzers, from celebrating my 21st birthday, to getting my grandfather his first meal after an incredibly lengthy hospital stay he almost didn't come out of alive, to one of my wife and I's first dates. I am truly going to miss Danzers.
This restaurant has been a staple in the city for a long time. They closed for a while following a harsh decline (due to bad management from the previous owners I hear), but an old employee bought the business, and it has reopened. Danzers is now better than ever. A lot of the old staff returned along with the old menu.
A variety of German sausage, schnitzel, and their famous reubens and other sandwiches make up the lunch menu. You can also get German classics like homemade dumplings, potato pancakes, mushroom fritters, and käsespätzle for appetizers. For dinner, they have their delicious Sauerbraten, Pan Fried Liver, and many other traditional German dishes. The horseradish house dressing for their salad is superb. Of course, to go with this is a massive selection of German beers. Don't worry, they have all the cheap domestics as well in case you have a glass jaw.
The service is always friendly and professional, and the atmosphere is unique. The decor is, of course, all German and over all it is small. The ceiling is low, and the restaurant is divided into two areas. It does not feel small and cramped though; it feels cozy. It's a place for locals. They don't try to dress up as some hip joint, follow a protocol to drive sales, wear stupid uniforms, serve underwhelming and overated dishes with silly names, or have strange weekday promotions Danzers sure as hell does not need any of that because like the few other German restaurants I have been to the fun and enjoyment comes from the people who both work and eat there, not from a marketing plan. No one tries to make it something it isn't.
As such, Danzers is not down town in the center of the nightlife but down the side road of a business sector outside the Onondaga Valley. Most likely, you would never stumble upon it on your own. Take my word, it is absolutely...
Read moreVisited again Friday 5pm. Not awful busy. Hostess sat us and brought us drinks after 3 visits to understand the drink order. Margarita not Martini. Bartender had to come to table to understand the order. Waitress finally showed up, took order asked for ranch dressing and told server that my husband is allergic to blue cheese. Server was not seen again for quite a while. Asked another server for more drinks. About 25 minutes later had to ask again for drinks. After an hour and no food and our server no where to be found, we asked another server where our food was. Someone else delivered our food. Our server brought Blue cheese. I told her again my husband was allergic to it and please bring ranch. Finall she brings another dressing.....Blue cheese again. I explain again that my husband is allergic to blue cheese and it would send him to the hospital! She blames the cook tells us she is sorry she is just so busy, and that she is doing the best she can. We didn't see her again. Had to ask someone else for togo boxes and a check. After another long wait we got up and went to Hostess stand. There sat our server. We asked her for our checks. We went to the bar to pay. Our server came over and askes us If there was a problem? I didn't answer her. I am sorry she was so overwhelmed that she couldn't do her job. I worked in the service industry for over 30 years. This was unacceptable service. Hopefully JDs at Danzers will be able to rise above the poor service and shine. The location is excellent. This restaurant can go from empty to overflowing in a blink of an eye. They need to be willing to have staff ready and able to serve the needs of their clients. Love the food and hopping the best for their success! We will try again 4/2025 Been ordering wonderful food for weeks. Today they severed me rotten rancid roast beef. Smelled so bad!...
Read moreHorrible experience on a Saturday afternoon. Heat wasn't working, ignored at the door. Bartender seated us and got us our drink and menu. At last, waitress came over, she was the one at the door by the way on her phone. She had 2 tables beside us, one leaving, one just ordered. She sat up at the front playing on her phone. Waitress finally came over and took our order. That was nice. We waited a while, couldn't find her, went to bar, got second drink. She went to other table told them out of Mac n cheese. Poor things had been waiting with 2 little kids. Very good little kids. They fixed order and we all waited....freezing. should have left at that point. Here come our wings! Dropped off to us, no napkins, or silverware, we asked for blue cheese. I got up and got bar napkins. She csme back, no blue cheese, out. Brought us ranch. Meanwhile. Off to nowhere with phone in hand, still dirty table of six. Bartender must have said something to her, she came to clear table, had to sit down to do it. Epitome of laziness! Our food came, got another beer from bar, not waitress. Food was just Ok. My red Reuben, which was on my mind since I left home thinking of this morning I would give a 4 for, extra $ for fries. Friend got haddock with fries, that was fresh and nice. Asked Bartender for bill and take home containers never saw waitress again until leaving. Paid Bartender, left her the tip, she's the one that waited on us. Sorry to say, we wont be back. By the way. Bill came to $88. Plus tip. For Reuben, haddock, wings and 6 beers!...
