Raj Saffron House is my absolute favorite restaurant in Syracuse by a long shot. I eat vegan (whole foods plant based) and the owner and staff are very accommodating, offering many suggestions on-menu and off-menu. The food is also very healthy; low-salt, low-oil, and I always feel great after eating, which is hard to find in Syracuse!
They are very kind as well, its a great vibe to visit and fun to see the place packed. People know a good thing, and when it comes to the 'Cuse, we are really lucky for a restaurant as great as RSH. My absolute fav thing here is the Gobi Manchurian, which reminds me of my beloved 'cauliflower wings' (for all my fellow vegans who love that kind of thing). I also loved the aloo gobi, chana masala. EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious, beautifully presented, and for a tall guy, it is VERY filling and at a great price.
For how delicious the food is, AND beautifully presented, I am surprised by how easy on the wallet it is, the bill is always beautiful at the end. I love everyone who works here. The vibe is very nice. Chill music playing, chill interior design, comfy seats, clean tables, clean bathrooms, and beautiful fresh flowers on the table. For parking they have (a) their own parking lot, (b) the big lot accessible of Harvard Pl or Westcott, or (c) street parking.
Oh! Its also so easy to pay, you just scan QR code and DONE, I love it. This place is amazing and well thought out, through and through. I look forward to coming back again and again! I just came home from Raj and thinking about my next trip.
If I had one wish in this whole world, I wish they would make vegan lassi or vegan desserts with vegan yogurt :P. There's so many oat and coconut based yogurts that everyone loves so it should be a big hit for the lactose intolerant who love their 'healthy' sweets :P Much love to Raj...
Read moreToday was my first time at this establishment. It was a solo lunch and as such I had time to really enjoy the experience, and it was an experience. The setting starts with curb appeal. It’s very intriguing. The indoors is inviting and cozy with appropriate lighting and music 🎷 🎶, the slight sounds of a busy kitchen, and the hum of energetic conversations. My first course was the Paneer Manchurian. Very yummy, moist but lacking a bit in the heat factor. I solved that quite easily by pairing it with the mint chutney. It was outstanding. The presentation was so incredibly elegant. I was surprised and impressed. The main course was a simple Chicken Biryani which I requested spicy. It was not simple at all! I can only say it was excellent. The chicken was cubed into perfect bites and the coating was divine (my only concern was that it was a tad dry) but it was easily overlooked when paired with the moist and flavorful rice. The rice! was aromatic, tangy, sweet and delicious. I couldn’t have asked for a more delightful experience. I was gifted a dessert of rice pudding which was topped with delicious and fresh fruits and nuts. The service was impeccable; friendly, kind, and gracious. I can’t wait to come back and bring friends.
I read some of their poorer reviews prior to stopping in and I can assure that not a one was true. My take away is that those “reviews” may have been left by envious...
Read moreReally disappointed. We foolishly chose this place for Mother's day. What a mistake. They were understaffed (or had staff that didn't give a damn about customers). I can tolerate poor service if the food is excellent but the tandoori chicken was inedible. I mean just terrible. I had two bites, my stepdaughter had maybe one bite. And they brought this before our appetizers and before soup (mulligatawny with chicken - only no actual chicken!). We ordered our usual garlic naan. That eventually came with our take out containers! (I didn't need one as I wasn't going to bring home the absolute worst tandoori chicken ever). My wife wanted some rice to go with her paneer. Nope -couldn't manage that. I asked for a bottle of sparkling water. Nope - couldn't manage that.
But at least they had one of their young children in the table behind us playing obnoxious phone games at an incredible noise level to, I suppose, keep him occupied? In the flipping dining room?! What professional restaurant allows this?
In my previous review i said they had some growing pains, but thought they would work them out quickly. They have not. They desperately need far better service employees.
I want to love this place, I really do. Tonight i could not have been more disappointed. Frankly i think they should not have charged us anything as the service and quality...
