I live about 500ft from S.H.G. The restaurant shares a storefront with a little grocery store. I'm there for this and that, especially the falafel sandwiches. They are sublime. There's no other singular description for their gyros. The food is carefully prepared in a short time and is consistently perfect. They are batting a 1.000, every time they crush it. The staff and prep cooks are all very nice people, and you can experience this because they are all working in an en plein air setup. When you order, they can hear you without shouting, which is great because nothing is lost between the cooks and the register. And as an outcome of this style makes everyone behind the counter accessible. And everyone is kind, accommodating, and always smiling. Again, this is just how it is, it's a restaurant that takes pride in every aspect of the process. When I flubbed an order, and approached the counter I realized that I made a mistake. When I realized my error I was embarrassed more than anything and learned my lesson for the next order. They didn't let me leave without remaking the sandwich to my taste. The chefs made precisely what I ordered. They were adamant about making me satisfied. I didn't ask for nor expect such generosity. Their only request was that I take both sandwiches and give away the perfectly prepared item I accidentally ordered. I found an instant taker in the gentleman who was stocking the drink cooler. In sum, everyone was pleased with the trade, and nothing went to waste. I got my phenomenal falafel as I wished, the delivery person got a free lunch, and the restaurant was happy to see everyone fed. Good luck finding that somewhere else. They are the best and they put their money second to their customer's satisfaction. Do your taste buds and tummy a favor; go eat at...
Read more05/30 Update- So after trying and loving the gyros yesterday I really wanted to try their pizza. I admit I was skeptical as this gyro/ pizza combination shop was something new to me. Well we ordered a large cheese pizza and it was so hot and delicious. Definitely tasted like good ole Brooklyn pizza. The sauce was seasoned well and the crust was baked to perfection. The cheese was gooey and delicious not greasy. Now we can get two of our favorite foods at one place. 05/29 Originally from Long Island and I was looking for a gyro spot as I had a favorite one on the Island. Being unfamiliar with Syracuse I had to do online research and check reviews. This spot has a 4.8 and the reviews were excellent. My husband went in and ordered 2 chicken and lamb gyros. The pita was so fresh. The meat was very seasoned and tender. Although the white sauce didn't taste like the one from Long Island it was delicious. If I had one critique I would say not to chop up the meat so small after it's sliced from the rotisserie. Overall it was a delicious and amazing experience and my husband and I have found our new favorite gyro...
Read moreSyracuse Halal Gyro (SHG) has been my go to spot for "Buffalo Chicken Wings in Syracuse since they started offering. Their Signature sauce, a combination of SHG's White and Hot sauces had the perfect combination of heat and tanginess for Chicken Wings. Tonight I got to try their first attempts at Chicken Tenders and what can best described as a Halal Garbage Plate. (Buffalo can keep their Garbage Plate, I've got SHG's.) French fries out of the fryer are covered with Shredded chicken from the flat-top grill then smothered with mozarella, before being placed back in the oven then topped off with SHG's White and Hot Sauces. It is comfort food at its best. Their chicken tender are lightly: spiced, floured and bread before deep fried. Leaving a crispy piece of chicken perfect for dipping.
To Just as important as the food are the people behind the counter, The Men and Women who own and work there are exceptionally kind, and pleasant. They are always happy to explain their food, including what they are working on next for their menu.
As long as they are open, I will gladly be customer and friend of...
