WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! If I could give 0 stars I would!!!! Made an appointment yesterday to meet with a decorator l, showed up on time and was forced to wait 15 mins. A guy came out and told us to read the hand written disclosure about the cake ordering and said the decorator would be right out, we said ok and waited some more. He then came back out and said he was the decorator (weird because 2 mins prior he wasn't) but we went with it. He asked us which picture we wanted and I told him we were looking for something not in a picture, he replied with I only make what's in the pictures. We explained what we wanted and he seemed ok with it and then I showed him a coupon I found online and asked if it was valid the first answer was yes of course, then it was the coupon expires before you pick up your cake (my response was the coupon wouldn't expire prior to my final payment being made) and then his answer was well I need it printed and in person. I said that it was crazy and if I needed to go to a library and pay .25 to print it out I would, he then closed the book and said he wasn't going to make a cake for me. I responded with I was going to write a review so no one else deals with this and he responded with make sure your honest!!! Worst customer service on the planet I can't believe they feel its appropriate to treat people that way especially since I was willing to drop almost $200 for a cake, never will set foot in...
Read moreI’ve been hearing about the donuts at this place for years, and was finally in the area to try them. We came in at 4:30pm on a Friday (an hour before they were to close and my First reaction going in, the bakery was dirty. Floors had crushed cookies on them and broken crust dust, rugs were dirty, the refrigerators looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, light fixtures were grimy sticky and dusty. I know it’s an old bakery.... but the walls were brown when they’re supposed to be light blue.... Other than that, the person helping us was friendly, the goods were reasonably priced and most of the donuts were delicious. We bought a lemon filled donut with a vanilla icing and Boston creme donuts, both were fantastic, a little bit too much filling in the lemon one but that’s just a preference. The Boston creme was perfect, and both donuts could of easily been eaten plain and would of been good too. We also ordered two cinnamon and sugar donuts, however they weren’t as good. They had the texture and taste like they were fried and taken out too early, but then they were put back into the oil. And then coated heavily in sugar to cover it all up. The inside was dry, yet grainy pasty and wet. The outside had a crust that fell apart from the donut as I ate it. Double fried. Way too much sugar. This is Definitely a bakery worth checking out if you have a donut fix, and I’m sure they have some other...
Read moreSchuyler Bakery is a landmark in the South End in the City of Watervliet. It has been there over 60 years! I grew up on those donuts pastries, and Birthday cakes! Anytime I had ever met someone, told them where I was from, they would ask if I knew of this little bakery. It is as famous as Ma' ma Leyonies in NYC but baked goods instead of Italian food. Yeah, I have many a fond memory of that bakery. Thanksgiving time, people would be in line out the door and down the alley waiting to pick up their pie order. Now mind you the business had changed hands a few years ago, but the Halako quality still lives on! All the recipes are still the same, and I think old Mrs. Halako still to this day checks in regularly with the new proprietors. So head to Port Schuyler, South end of Watervliet for some of the Best Baked treats you will find...
