My second visit was horrible (1st visit review after this). I can't comment to food because that never got to me. Our first visit was so pleasant that reserve seats for the following week. This time we reserve the back area where they have live music. We arrive at 7pm the time of our reservations. we got our choice of seat and we choose directly in front of the live music (the guy had a good voice). At 7:30 we had not been served, not even greeted, we flag down the owner he took our drink beverage but said someone else would take our food order. At 7:47 we walked out!. At that time a table of 8 that got sat at 7:28( yes I was looking at my clock by this point) had already received water for the table which we never got and they were now taking there order. we asked the bus boy for our bill and explained that no one had come by our table. From the side the waitress (the one that didn't do her job in the first place) came by and told me to stop talking to her bus boy because he is only a bus boy. As I started to share my frustration her response was I saw you with drink so I thought you were been taken care of. At that moment I walked away. If she is the waitress for that area and at NO point spoke to us who did she think served us, it obviously wasn't her. Instead of listing to us that was her excuse. I drove around the front walked in the front door and paid for our drinks. The did offer not charge but I felt a point needed to be made. This cost 1 star.
The average of the two visit makes it a 3 start.
The people. Every business needs people to make it run. The food and hospitality business are in the business of people. And this place has that. The staff was friendly, shared the story of the restaurant dating back to the 1930s. They were accommodating, we arrive 1 hour before they open, but since they were there attending a private party they set us up on the patio and happily served us. Wait this is a review about a restaurant and the most important part is the food. Well I must say the food is on the same level as the staff. We will be back, We already made reservations...
Read moreI hosted a Bridal Shower Brunch at Sam's of Gender Way and I had an amazing experience from planning to day of.
I called around to a few venues for details about this bridal shower and they were the most transparent and clear about the entire cost, the minimums for each room, and what the brunch service would entail. Once I was ready to book with them, putting down a deposit and reserving the time was the easiest thing ever. I worked with Karen to arrange the event. She took note of the food restrictions I knew of, and told me to call back if I found out anything else.
As the date got closer, I'll admit, my Type-A self got a little paranoid that something was going to go wrong because it was too easy to work with them. My day job involves events, so I'm used to restaurants losing little details here and there. I finally called up to double-check everything, and Karen let me know all the information they had down--which was completely correct and I felt at ease.
On the day of, they let my friends in early to decorate, but the patio area was already beautifully decorated with paper lanterns and flowers. We really only added the touches that literally said "Bridal Shower" because everything else was so beautiful (see photos).
Once the event began, Alberto took care of us. He paid special attention to the bride, but we were all surprised that with just one waiter, our 30 mimosa glasses were never empty.
We did a family-style brunch and each tray had plenty of food.
Alberto checked in with me multiple times during the event to make sure everything was okay. After the party was over, multiple members of my family remarked that we should do future events like this here. It was my family's first experience at Sam's, and we were beyond impressed.
The service was excellent, the attention to detail was great, and the price-for-value ratio was amazing. I completely recommend Sam's for private events--and...
Read moreSaturday night we had our son's High School graduation dinner for 14 at Sam's of Gedney Way. The whole evening was amazing, the atmosphere, the cuisine and service...all were wonderful. Everything was served family style. For appetizers we had coconut shrimp, fried calamari, antipasto and and assortment of thin crust and deep dish pizzas. I can't tell you which was the best, because they were all excellent. We had two salads, a blue cheese ice berg wedge and an arugula salad. Again, both were perfect. For a pasta course we had ziti with peas, mint, shaved Italian cheese, and a light tomato sauce. The addition of the cheese and the mint made the dish a real stand out, both light and fresh and creamy and decadent. Our main course was Salmon, Filet Mignon, and Half Chicken. I had the salmon, and honestly, I've never had better, everyone who had it raved about it. My husband had the beef, and he couldn't say enough about the quality and flavor. With it we had two types of potatoes, mashed and roasted/herbed. Both disappeared. For vegetables, we had string beans which were crisp and seasoned to perfection. We also had creamed spinach and the bowls were wiped clean! lol! For dessert, beside the graduation cake which was a devil's food with whip cream frosting, we had trays of mini red velvet cake, Napoleon, and other assorted mini desserts, which were delicate and delicious. Our dinner was incredible from start to finish. And I can't say enough about the service. It was both attentive and stealth. There was never an empty plate or glass on the table for more than a few minutes. The courses flowed beautifully. The food and service were excellent. We couldn't have been...
