On Saturday, 19 July 2020. I visited Taco Projext and ordered two grilled chicken tacos - one order was changed to substitute rice for guacamole. The other order, mine, was ordered as-is with no substitutions.
I arrived home and began eating my tacos. Given the unusual consistency (gummy) of the meat, I dug into the contents and discovered shrimp - I am highly allergic to all shellfish.
I grabbed my Epi-Pen, the uneaten meal, and rushed to WestMed Urgent Care at Boyce Thompson Center, the same location as Taco Project. I spent an hour receiving a prednisone IV drip to discourage encephalitic shock.
After being discharged, I returned to Taco Project with physical signs of the allergic reaction and discharge paperwork in-hand. I spoke with the owner/manager who was relieved to see that I survived. He apologized and offered to replace the meal, and refund the $30.00 tab.
I pointed out that the individuals packing the bags spent too much time gabbing and tending to their iPhones, and clearly not paying attention to the task at-hand - ensuring the correct orders are intact before bagging them.
While something is better than nothing, I declined his offer and departed vowing to never eat there again. The medication prescribed by the attending physician was $120. Todays’s Urgent Care visit will run $1,000 or more; I will likely incur $400 of that expense, after insurance addresses their responsibility. Granted, $520 is a small price to pay to live and I remain thankful to have insurance coverage, a privilege that many do not possess.
To the owner/manager of Taco Project Yonkers, this afternoon’s incident could have ended badly for both us. Given that YOUR establishment is 100% responsible for my health incident, you could have offered to reimburse me for the out-of-pocket expenses. I am heartened to know that the value you placed on my life was $30.
I was thrilled to see your establishment survive and thrive during the coronavirus lockdown - I purchased dinner for my family there several times a week. Going forward, I’ll visit your neighbors where customer care remains a priority. And when I want Tex-Mex, I’ll return to Tomatillo in Dobbs Ferry - great food and never a...
Read moreI have been eating Taco Project for years. I was so upset after finding not one but two pieces of hair in my steak burrito bowl. I was so appalled I called them right up to share. I was told by Sebastian, that he could either give me a refund or write a note for the next time when I return to get another burrito bowl, appetizer and/ or dessert. I wasn’t satisfied that it was a either or after taking a cab there then to another appointment on the other side of town. I asked to speak with someone higher after being just disappointed and disturbed by the experience. I received a call from manager a called Marcella. Marcella wasn’t helpful at all nor apologetic just kept saying the entire time I’m not going to react or be passive aggressive. Reason that I’m upset regarding my experience requesting a refund and a meal for the next time. I was so concerned that her being a manager wasn’t the best thing. Marcella proved she wasn’t suited to deescalate , take responsibility and find a better solution. They use the same measures if a sour cream was missing out the bag they would provide the same options as the extreme of hair being in my food. Marcella was bothered by my complaint and hung up in my face because I then caught her reacting and being every bit of passive aggressive. I was a of Taco Project fan, and sharing my unsanitary food incident wasn’t taken seriously at all. Be careful eating from here you might get attack for having an issue with hair being in your food or service in general. Then they treat you bad and have their staff you a tell lies. They act like it’s a struggling business and they can’t take loss. Today they really proved they’re unprofessional, bias, and their service is bad. I will never return again. Weirdo Caucasian guy who never met me going to ask me to leave. You leave and hire new staff before you allow them to take profit from your business. While I’m spending my hard earned money you all being disrespectful and completely dishonest. I will always defend myself when someone is...
Read moreUpdated to 1 star from my 5 star review 5 years ago: In the last year everytime I order here the portions have gotten smaller and smaller but prices seem to increase. A basic bowl used to be $15 after adding options now a bowl can cost over $20 and they barely fill it with any food. I don't usually get beans and used to substitute free extra rice or onions. Not anymore.i just get less rice. The staff has changed over a couple of times and the quality of the food, while still good, is not the same as before. The bowls and quesadillas always seem thrown together quickly and rushed. Throw in the increased pricing and it's not worth it. Dinner for two with drinks and sides to-go here will run you $50 to $60 and that is not worth it for what you get considering you can eat out at a variety of nearby restaurants and spend as much.
Really good food! Good to the point that it is addictive. Never have I sat at home on a Weekend afternoon thinking I need to get in my car and drive a few minutes up the road to get American/Mexican Food! POSITIVES: Friendly staff. Fast Service. Clean Environment. Fresh Food (a rarity these day). Tasty Food! Mango Salsa is to die for! Lots Of Menu Options and Beverages. Great portions. Not too much of one thing and not too little. DELTAS: Menu design with the weird fonts above the counter can be confusing if you are there for the first time. Also they have a second menu for extra sides you can add to dishes scotch taped to the side at the cash register. Pricing is a bit weird. Chips and guacamole at $8 is almost the same price as a $9 chicken bowl meal with guacamole. Sides can add up when adding them to a bowl. I usually get the $9 steak bowl but by the time I add mango salsa, pico de gallo, cheese, lettuce, onions, corn and tomatoes it becomes a $15 dish – which I think is still a great deal since the food tastes great! However many may not like the increase in price from the base price. OVER ALL: I love coming here for the delicious food and...
