Daddy's Main Street Hot Dog — Restaurant in Clarion

Ok, but could be so much better. To be fair, they don't bill the hots dogs as anything special, and they're right--they aren't. The toppings were fresh and good but the meat was pretty much like the cheap dogs from the local grocery, and the untoasted buns likewise. I saw what looked like fresh cut potatoes so had high hopes for the fries, but they were soggy, more like spaghetti made from potatoes. They fried them some more, which did crisp them up and they were ok then, but quickly sogged again. On the plus side they give you a lot of them--a medium frie is more than enough for two people. This looks like it should be a really good place--the people are really nice, it has a counterculture vibe, etc--but I can't explain the high ratings for average food that could be much better (you've got a grill so why not butter and toast your buns? They'd be so-o-o much better). The things we didn't try must be really good. In the end I took them back because they were still soggy, was told that's because they're fresh cut (not true--I have eaten many great fresh cut fries). At first they offered me a $10 gift certificate which was way more than generous, but I'm an out of towner so couldn't use it; then they gave me a $5 refund which was also more than generous. So overall I would say great people here but they just have to step up their game with the dogs and fries. My husband and I love Daddy's. I mean LOVE. So, it was an easy decision to have them cater our wedding. If you think that Daddy's makes a good burger, you will be astounded how wonderful the other food they make is. We received countless compliments on how delicious everything was. To make things even better, Dana was an absolute joy to work with. It's so obvious how passionate he is about food and how much he prides himself on his work. Hearing him rattle off ideas of everything we could serve made us even more excited about our big day and he came up with menu items to fit our wedding theme. Extremely friendly owner that checks in and even sat and chatted with us for quite some time. He suggested local breweries to stop at. Gave us complimentary fries with his special seasoning and a cookie. I got The wimpy burger with onion rings and my husband got three for seven hot dog special. Food was good but then we saw the special come out and thought next time we'll try that. Super friendly service, quick and reasonably priced food.
