Pretty much everything I experienced the night we dined in was terrible besides the very friendly hostess. She was very polite and personable. Now to give a little back story I had come here several times before and food and service used to be good....used to be. Came for lunch a couple weeks Prior for a quick lunch meeting and ordered 9 tacos in total. Couple were ok couple were underseasoned and dry as the Mojave desert .the 3 birria tacos were the worst birria tacos I have ever had in my entire life. Flavorless dry no cheese terrible sear on them and the beef consume soup tasted like flavor glow and canned tomato sauce . The Cilantro rice was flavorless and worse then some 4 day old microwave Chinese carry out rice. Bill was 90 bucks and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Fast forward a few weeks and I had a business meeting for dinner to discuss a out of town wedding we were catering. I suggested we meet at honchos hoping that the last time I came was just a fluke and that everybody has an off day. ....well I couldn't have been more wrong. Showed up and had a ridiculously long wait for a table. Was told about an hour was actually closer to 2 hours . Then had to stand at the bar while we waited for them to clean our table off. Ending up waiting about 25 more minutes. Server came up to us and asked us if we wanted drinks so we ordered a beer diet pop lemonade and 2 margaritas. 10 mins go by we got the beer and one margarita and lemonade the diet and other margaritas took another 15 mins....we tried to stop the waiter to ask him where the other drinks were and he stopped briefly to say he was too busy and would check in a min....the bar is literally 10 feet away from where we were standing ans I could see our drink ready....luckily wen we finally git to our table someone else was our sever now.He was really nice but yet again the food was mediocre at best.....my son liked the mac n cheese but the nacho and tamale pie were pretty weak.....I was really disappointed the place has a really cool vibe but that will only last so long if the food sux and service as well. Hopefully they figure out how to deal with being super busy and not having the quality of food drop...

Read moreThis is a review of the coffee shop only, which is attached to the restaurant, and which keeps separate hours (opening around 7 am).
I've been coming to the coffee shop since it first opened. After traveling abroad, I returned and have visited regularly over the past several weeks.
I want to note that Honcho is a restaurant and bar first, but that coffee isn't an afterthought: they roast coffee in-house and serve a variety of coffee drinks and pastries.
Formerly, Honcho emphasized Mexican coffees (especially Chiapas) but the current espresso on offer is a Guatemala-Ethiopia blend, which I like, and which my coffee-drinking buddy finds more agreeable.
They roast on the lighter side, which retains acidity and gives a sense lf regional character, which is to my liking, but not to everyone's.
One issue at the coffee bar is inconsistency: I find that the morning crew, especially the young man with long hair, serve better espresso than the afternoon and evening crew. My experiences outside of the morning leave a lot to be desired, to be frank, with the espresso tending to be harsh and over-extracted.
I want to be clear that, when the coffee is on point, it's genuinely excellent espresso, and is the very best in the area (and then some), but there are also times when it is unpleasant. Fortunately, if you time your visit during peak coffee hours, you can get excellent coffee in Clarkston.
One small gripe is the lack of spoons or wooden stirrers. Many serious espresso drinkers prefer stirring espresso before drinking it, and as far as I know, they don't have demitasse spoons here, but I haven't asked specifically.
In passing, I will note that their cinnamon rolls are locally well-known...
