Guajillo's Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Clayton

We get take out from Guajillo’s several times a month and usually find the food yummy. My only complaint is the flan. I love flan!!! My mom was from Spain and made it all the time. It was her signature dessert and I miss it. The first few times I got flan at Guajillo’s, I thought - finally a restaurant that knows how to make flan. It was thick, rich, creamy and oh so good!!!

Sadly their flan has not been a consistent recipe. I keep getting the flan in hopes of getting that yummy goodness and I seem to be doomed by getting the grainy, curdled scrambled eggy flan instead. I have no idea why it’s a hit or miss with them. But over the past 6 months 1 out of 4 times the flan is perfection the other 3 it’s not good. All I have to do is pop the lid on the box and can instantly tell. If the outside of the flan is smooth I’ve hit the jackpot. If the outside of the flan has a grainy spongy looking texture it will be curdled and taste like I’m eating eggy grits.

Today was the worst one yet - no bueno. I miss getting the yummy, good, creamy, custard flan I know you can make. I don’t want to feel like I’m playing the lottery when I order the flan. Please make the flan good again.

My family and I are regulars at this charming little restaurant, and we truly enjoy the food and atmosphere. The flavors are fantastic, and it's clear that the owner and staff put a lot of love into their work. However, after several visits, we feel there's an opportunity to improve the overall experience, especially considering the tight space.

One suggestion we'd offer is to consider a system where customers order their food directly at the front counter, and any alcoholic drinks are ordered separately at the bar. This setup is already used by other local favorites like Chido Taco and Tacos Y Burritos California, and we believe it would help streamline service, eliminate the need for a waitress to navigate the crowded space, and ultimately improve the flow. With fewer people walking around, it would also make the experience feel less cramped for everyone.

We really hope to see this restaurant grow and maybe even expand to a larger space in the future. Keep up the great work, and we look forward to many...

Hard to enjoy your food when you’re being rushed ! When entering I was told to sit where I wanted, now everyone is watching US because they wanted to Use this table for a larger party which could have been expressed up front ! Food was cold meat and tortillas. Guess you can’t get treated right here unless they feel like your going to give them a big tip ! I was overcharged , service was terrible and my food was cold ! I only tip big when it’s deserved ! Get the tip out of the extra I have been charged! I will never return !
