Jones Cafe — Restaurant in Clayton

The previous reviewer couldn't have been more wrong! Jones Lunch has been open since 1956; it's an old place, old furniture, old decor, just plain down-home local town diner atmosphere, but it is NOT nasty, it's charming. The wait staff is friendly and prompt, and the cook is always bustling to get food to you quickly. The hot dogs are Carolina Red Hots, a staple in this area. Everything is cooked to order, and the fries are always piping hot, not kept under a heat lamp. Buns are just ordinary grocery store-style buns, not fancy kaiser rolls, but they're soft and fresh. The bacon on the burgers is crisp, not floppy. As for the price, where else can you get a delicious bacon cheeseburger with fries for less than $4??? You can pick whatever toppings you want (including chili and slaw) without it costing more. I don't know what "Soups on" was looking for, but I'm glad they won't go back--more table room for us if the restaurant is busy! And it always is, because Jones Lunch...

Some things are actually still better than what people tell you. I was in Clayton on business the other day, and suddenly about 1:30 I was really hungry. I called my cousin Amanda Timberlake House but sh was cooking her lunch, so I asked where I should eat, you know, at a Mom 'N Pop. She quickly said, Jones Cafe. Just then, I remembered that my friend Scotty Mason had included Jones in a Tarheel Traveler special. So, it was off to Jones in downtown Clayton which has some lovely shops.

I wanted to be good so I had no fries. But I had a scrumptious hot dog, just one unfortunately, and a delicious BLT! The folks there made me feel like I had been a customer for ions. Only if I could move the joint to Zebulon.

From very clean restrooms to top shelf comfort food, I give Jones Cafe six stars.

The Breakfast/lunch eatery in Clayton. The food is sooo good!! Hot, fresh, and over more than enough!! The service can not compare to anything I have seen in a long long time. Friendly staff, clean, and the atmosphere is just like your among old friends, and 👪.. Jones Café thank you for not losing that exceptional down home feel. 10 thumbs up!!! They were close for a week this month to give them a restful vacation. What a wonderful gesture on behalf of the owners!! I am not going to lie tho I really miss them ans the food.. Welcome back guys !!! We appreciate you!!! Still has the same great service, and great people...
