Gyro Place — Restaurant in Clear Lake

I came here a couple of times before writing the review. Before I get to the food I want to talk about the staff and the building. The staff is impeccable! Everyone is courteous, professional, and very welcoming. They make me want to come back. And I most definitely will. The building is across from the park at the edge of the lake and if you sit at the window you get a stunning view of the park with the lake behind it. It had just snowed the day before my last visit and the view was beautiful. And the food: First tripmy partner and I each got a jumbo gyro and split large fries. It was bothe the gyro and the fries were huge and i was very satisfied with my choice. The gyro had tomato, onion, and plenty of tzatziki sauce. I always ask for extra sauce though because I love tzatziki and dip my fries in it. Second time we went we tried a number of different things. I got the regular lamb gyro, my partner got the lamb gyro deluxe. Both were awesome. Both were awesome and my partner loved the toppings on the delux. The pita was soft and fresh. We also got a few tacos. We are both originally from California so we have been missing authentic Mexican food since moving to Iowa. I gotta say this is the best Mexican food I have had so far in Iowa. I had the birria, chrizo, and chicken tacos. All were great and the birria came with a cup of consume which was delicious. It came with 2 salsas mild and hot. The hot wasn't too hot but had a little kick. I love spicy food and hope they make one even hotter in the future. We also had a 2 piece fried chicken with white meat which was a breast and wing. The fried chicken was very unique and the skin was incredibly crisp and perfectly rendered. It tasted like chicken chicharron. The chicken also came with fries and cole slaw. I thought the cut of the fries was very interesting and fun.

I would highly recommend Gyro Place to anyone looking for delicious, fresh, well made food at a fantastic price. Thus is my favorite restaurant in Iowa. I ate there today and cannot wait to...

Not sure why there are so many rave reviews. My experience with the food was not really good.

I made an order for six pieces of wings, extra crispy, with buffalo sauce, and one order of the Gyro Supreme.

When I got the food the wings were crispy, but there was no sauce on them. Instead, the sauce was in a cup. This was unusual to me, as I didn’t have a metal bowl to toss the wings in, so I had to drizzle the sauce over the wings, and it was not a pleasant experience.

The Gyro meat was overcooked, and the portions were very small.

I paid over $35.00 for the food, and I would not spend that kind of money on food like that again.

I just cannot stress how weird and abnormal it was to get wings not...

We were tired after a long day, but our dinner was excellent. Hubby had lamb gyro salad. He would have enjoyed more lettuce but it was good, dark greens, and the meat was perfectly seasoned. Happy hubby … priceless!

I had 3 crunchy gyro tacos. I forgot to order added lettuce, but still wonderful !! I ordered both mild (taco) sauce and cucumber sauce on the side and only used the cuc.sauce. It was perfect.

Loved the personality of having the staff (management?)‘s children come out from the back room as we sat there. Heart warming to be around...
