We're in town visiting my in-laws and found this while seeking locally-owned coffee shops. Livonia's is situated on the main strip in Clear Lake's "downtown". The shop was easy to find. Upon entry, I noticed the high ceilings and ample seating. The space was aesthetically-pleasing and the staff was very welcoming.
I got a latté flight, and my hubby got his usual cold brew. I'm not sure if they make their own cold brew, or not, as it came out of a tap from a Stok appliance. Either way, he did not like it and ended up leaving the full drink in the discard tray. My latté flight was $22, which is 1.5x the price as other shops that serve the equivalent in Iowa (Blue Bean in Ankeny and Coffee House Café in Davenport. I don't have a problem paying good money for good products. The four mini-lattés were lackluster. They were all a lot pretty than they tasted. The lattés were all garnished differently but all tasted the same so I dumped them all into the same to-go cup when we were leaving. All of the syrups sank to the bottom of the glasses. I would probably mix the flavoring into the coffee before pouring into garnished glasses for better execution. I'd be eager to try one of their cortados next time. That's the real...
Read moreAs frequent lake go-er’s we were excited to try the newest coffee shop in town; however, our group was disappointed as a whole (sadly!).
The atmosphere was welcoming & adorable, to their advantage. The coffee and drinks themselves were less than palatable. Ordered matcha, the green was hardly recognizable, first glance you know it couldn’t be genuine. It tasted like sweet milk. No tea. Another in our group ordered a signature latte of theirs. The syrup was not stirred in by any means, it was defaulted to oat milk, and as one w an allergy it should be clarified upon ordering. For an avg of $8/drink it’s really upsetting.
In addition, they ran out of ice. In an unfortunate circumstance, though understandable for a holiday wknd, it should’ve been communicated upon ordering as well. When it came to picking up our drinks from the counter, an “iced” latte was still warm, & the other had 4 square ice cubes. We asked for additional ice, it was then that they said they’ve run out of ice and could accommodate a half glass.
I hope this can be constructive & taken into consideration in a positive means to only further advance their...
Read moreI want to like this place so bad but I just can’t. Every time I come in, I’m never greeted, just stared at like I have something on my forehead. I have to say the first word at the counter, it’s so awkward. The gentleman who eventually did serve me was very kind though.
I hate the iced chai latte. (I’ve tried it twice now) I’m not a coffee drinker and this is one of just a few non-coffee offerings. Chai is my go-to order. It tastes like watered down cinnamon milk. The cinnamon floating around is so obtrusive and literally burns my mouth, but not in a pleasant, spicy tea way.
Lastly, the children’s play area is a welcome feature for downtown. HOWEVER, if you’re going to offer it, please keep it clean. My baby had gray knees and backside from crawling around and sitting on the rug/floor in the...
