2 weeks ago my wife and I stopped in to have dinner. Now mind you, this was not our first time stopping at this truckstop. I was having a problem reading the menu and I politely told the waitress this. Unfortunately, my eyes are not what they used to be and yes, I do have glasses but still the print on the menu seemed rather small and unreadable. The waitress merely made a joke out of it. I guess some people think getting old is funny. That day seemed to be the day to joke about older people. We were sitting in the first booth behind the host's station and one of the other servers made a crude statement about an elderly lady who was there as well. I vowed never to do business with the restaurant again. Well, after today, it looks like I can add the shop to that vow as well. We were waiting in line to get our trailer washed out. There was an issue with the truck that had previously exited the wash bay. Apparently his brakes had frozen up and couldn't move. One of the wash bay crew members asked me if I could back up so they could get the truck that was currently inside the bay out. My brakes had begun to freeze and the wash crew told the manager that I was having an issue to. The manager came unglued and started yelling at the wash crew...you couldn't help but hear him and his remarks..."f××× the truck wash, f××× the trucks, and f××× the drivers!" Well I have news for you, it's the drivers that pay your salary and you are NO manager to talk to your crew that way. As for the restaurant servers, getting old is not funny. Its humiliating. I have seen more things than you young pups can imagine. It's one thing to treat people in a discourteous manner when they are treating you the same. But it is totally unacceptable when it's...
Read more35E has it's Toby's situated midway between the Twin Cities and Duluth...a place where you can enjoy breakfast, and fresh bakery items/donuts that are as big as your head (almost). The Clearwater Travel Plaza (formerly known as Nelson Brothers) is the Toby's of 94W, situated between the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, or more distant locales.
Here's what you'll find at the Clearwater Travel Plaza. A gas station/convenience store for all your on-the-road needs. A gift shop. A bakery that offers donuts as big as your head. A deli with fresh baked breads, pizzas, fudge, and sandwiches. A full-service restaurant/bar where you can get some of the Travel Plaza's unique items, such as Apple or Blueberry Fritter Bread French Toast (it's delicious) and wild-rice sausage. Just beyond the deli, on a counter, you can often find day-old bread and baked goods sold at a discount. Loosen your belt before you spend time here, because you'll leave much fuller than you were when you entered.
This place is large, and usually quite busy. Be prepared for a bit of a wait, especially if you're visiting the restaurant on weekends.
In addition, you'll find trucker amenities as well.
The most irritating thing about the place is getting out, especially if you're trying to make a left turn out of the road that leads into the place, to get back to 94. You can wait here for an eternity. I'd recommend taking a right turn and then going up a block or two to the light and...
Read moreMy husband and I have loved coming here because the food has always been good. However tonight changed my desire to want to go back there again. When I went to the restroom the hostess to the restaurant went into a bathroom stall next to me. Then when I was done and washing my hands. She came out of the stall and left the restroom right away without washing her hands. I know some people are gross and do that but she’s a worker there handing out peoples menus, possibly handling their food. I went to her and told her how I noticed that she didn’t wash her hands after using the bathroom. Then she gave me this snarky response “I was just taking a call”. She then went to help guests coming into the restaurant. I informed our waitress that about the situation and that they should clean the menus she hands out now so people don’t get sick. I mentioned how even though she was in the bathroom stall just taking a call, she handled the same door handle that people who just wiped their butt handled to leave the restroom and then went to pass people menus. So my suggestion is if you don’t feel like getting a side of E. Coli with your food, I...
