INTRO: If you love ramen, I have some exciting news to tell you. Raku Ramen is literally the best ramen establishment in the greater Triad area. You won't find a better ramen place in Winston-Salem. I guarantee it. I consider myself a ramen connoisseur. I've eaten at all of the major ramen establishments in Raleigh, NC, and have even eaten at Ichiran in New York City, which is considered one of the greatest ramen restaurants in the United States. Although Raku Ramen falls short on the global and national scale, it exceeds all expectations in our small town of Winston-Salem. THIS IS THE BEST RAMEN PLACE IN WS.
ENTREE 1: Black Garlic Ramen ($15.00) - The garlic flavor is absolutely out of this world. If you're a fan of ramen, you won't go wrong by picking this flavor. The broth is carefully crafted and is surprisingly not as salty as you might think even though the broth is incredibly rich. The balance of umami and savoriness will have you asking yourself "why is today my first time here?" I also recommend selecting the pork belly instead of the chicken because the pork belly is cooked to perfection. It's incredibly tender, and it has a slight glaze on the circumference of the pork, which adds a nice crisp when you bite into it. Once you bite through the glaze, you'll begin to experience the tender meat imbued with rich flavor.
ENTREE 2: Also Black Garlic Ramen ($15.00) - Same review as above. Different day, same great taste.
WORTH IT? Absolutely - 10/10
*PLEASE NOTE: Although this restaurant is called Raku Ramen and Sushi, you should NEVER get the sushi here. It might as well be called Raku Ramen only. Their sushi is...
Read moreFirst I was very excited to go there and try the food! My family and I went there for lunch. The place looks nice and all but honestly when I left there I was very upset and disappointed. Let me explain, the food portions were smaller than what I expected for the price ! The taste of the food was just ok, was missing a lot of salt and spices in my opinion! We were rushed to order our food and the waitress was giving us wired looks when we ask her questions! Most importantly, we were at the restaurant around 2:35pm the waitress told us that “there is no rush but if you don’t order before 3 pm we will not be able to serve you because we take a break !!!! “I was very surprised and upset. So I asked the waitress when I looked online and it says you will be open from noon till 10 pm She said” that is correct but we take break at 3 pm and the chefs too take break “ I told her it doesn’t say anything about it online how are we supposed to know. Then she started to have attitude and I can tell she was mad but am sorry things like that have to be put in paper and online because what if some people are coming from long driving distance to eat at this restaurant! Not logical to tell customers who may be hungry that oh we will not serve you because we take break it will be another 30 or and hour! My opinion is if you want to take break that is ok as long as it is communicated to the customer before coming! Price was a bit much for the food, I have have way better food another places for...
Read moreRecently I visited Raku ramen and sushi. The first visit was great I had Tom Kah soup and sushi. I was a bit put off by the spicy yellow tail and spicy tuna rolls as the texture was as if they were minced and mixed with spicy sauce and crunchy bits. I assume this is for ease of fish prep because sushi has become vogue around the country, but the flavor was still great. So a few weeks later my wife wants to go there for her birthday. Now was my time to get a nice bowl of ramen! The red spicy oil ramen comes with either pork belly or chicken, I choose the pork belly. They were busy so it took some time for our food t to come out. When they sat my bowl down I laid my eyes on 3 large hunks of pork belly, a creamy white tonkatsu broth with a nice marinated egg. It had some green onion on top but that was the end of the visual. Nothing else adorned the bowl. Ok so I thought just their interpretation of tonkatsu ramen. I could smell the broth and chili oil but it didn't just spring out at me. So I took a big sip of the broth. It really lacked much character at all. I added some soy sauce to it. Second sip and still not much. I finally got a nice helping of noodles, and honestly I believe that they are cooking spaghetti noodles from a box and over cooking them at that. Honestly this is American ramen and not very good ramen at that. The broth did seem to be very well made but I don't think they add anything to the bowl to give it any character at all. I'll not be paying $17 for this...
