I've been extremely sick recently and I was craving excellent Mexican food since I've been feeling better. I really wanted to enjoy this place, especially since it has been around for so long, but unfortunately the food just missed the mark. The rice has a strong tap water (we all know that flavor) taste, and both the chicken and beef were overcooked, stringy, and lacking seasoning. I guess maybe so it's not so spicy for all us "white" people but I just want authentic. Honestly, it was hard to tell the two apart flavor wise, except for the color.
During my visit, I very clearly asked for shredded cheese added to my plate, but I was given a nacho cheese dip made from pasteurized American cheese, which was very disappointing for an authentic Mexican food restaurant. On top of that, the bill was higher than expected. $8.99 instead of the $8.50 on the menu for Flautas, plus an extra 99 cent charge for the cheese and a small 35 cent fee that was never explained. Not expensive, but not correct either
The service was quick, which I appreciated, but everything else was mediocre. I just did not feel like their hearts are in the food at all. The food was okay, but not much better than that.
Having grown in the Southwest, I know what authentic Mexican food should taste like. This is a watered down Americanized version.
Maybe it was just what I bought today but unfortunately I wasn't impressed. Based on all of the other reviews, it is very clear that they could do...
Read moreUPDATE: We have been back a number of times, and I am updating my review to 5 stars due to the service vastly improving! I have held off writing this review for a while. This was our go-to place for a long time. But the last two visits were maddening. It basically comes down to inattentiveness. We came in, and there was plenty of seating available. As soon as we walked in to wait to be seated, there was a large party that walked in after us. We moved to the side to let them in, and they were immediately seated. Then people came up to pay. They were served. People came in for to go orders. We are still waiting. After about 15 minutes of standing around, some of that time, no one was at the front of the house, we were finally seated. Everything was fine from then on. Let it go, no big deal.
The second time, no one is at the front. People walking around in the back. Not a busy day. We still had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. And then we're we forgotten about, no one came to our table. We left after about 20 minutes. We went to another Restaurant and had a great time.
I really do like this place, and I want it to do well. Please fix this issue. I am sure we will try again some time...
