If I could give this place 0 stars to write a review, I would. Upon entry, my service dog and I entered during peak time on Christmas Eve. With the loud music and busy ambiance, it took us a while to find a place where it would be comfortable for us to stand. Within 45 seconds of being in one place, a staff member approached me and told me that I had to leave. I responded to him saying that he is a SERVICE DOG and the staff member had the audacity to respond "well my manager said he is not acting like a service dog". I am absolutely appalled at the lack of communication, respect and understanding from this place. This staff member was wrong, rude, disrespectful and negligent. Service dogs are protected under the FDA and therefore, a person cannot be asked to leave due to having one accompanying and aiding a person. From the lack of disgust, I immediately walked out. I understand that people use that title to excuse their dogs to get into places but it is no person’s judgements to say if my dog is “acting like a service dog”. If they had approached me for a simple conversation, I would of been happy to give them more details. From a visitor, first time here in Cocoa Beach, I will absolutely never go back into this place again. Don't even waste your time going, the servers and staff members are arrogant, rude and clearly do not understand the true nature of hospitality. If this was such an issue, the manager themselves should have approached me instead of having someone else do their work for them. Absolutely never again. This all happened before I could even purchase a drink or have...
Read more"The Shack" (as it's lovingly referred to) is my favorite place on the beach. No hurries. No worries. They don't serve food, but you can order pizza from around the corner. There's a full bar so you can have a Rum Runner, a Bloody Mary or just a Busch Light (cheapest beverage). The view?? Gorgeous!! No one is (potentially) making you uncomfortable by stalking you & your table. Stay as long as you'd like, soak up some sun & enjoy your day!! Getting a little warm? Walk off the deck & head directly to the ocean to cool off. Don't forget your shoes!! The sand can burn your feet!! The restrooms?? They're EXPONENTIALLY better than they were!!! Occasionally, there is a chalkboard sign that says, "No Wi-Fi. Look at the ocean & talk to each other." Novel concept that we ALL should fully embrace. Children are not allowed to stay, but can do a "pit stop" while Mom & Dad grab a drink to take with them to the beach. Hubs & I are day drinkers, but the bands that come thru have always been good!! Loud for my taste, but good music. It's a garden variety of genres so pick your poison. I hope you enjoy "The Shack"!! It's a bit... "rustic". So if you're picky about a lot of things? It's not for you. If you want to hang out with a couple of beverages & look at the ocean? "The Shack" is your ...
Read moreWe started off on a good note with people dancing and having fun. And to start this off, we saw and fully read the sign on the door as you walk in. I have a service dog who is on the last step of training and my friend has a legitimate, licensed, tested, and fully trained service dog. They were a bit overwhelmed because of the people so they were pacing a bit since we had just found a place to stand. A bartender came up to my friend who has the fully trained service animal and told HER to leave because her service animal “wasn’t acting like one” solely because we had just walked in the door and he was trying to find a place to get comfortable. Meanwhile, with my dog who is still in training, I was not approached but decided to leave out of respect for my friend. I understand no pets, especially because of the fact that they are service animals and we FULLY understand how untrained dogs can be, but to ask a fully trained service dog to leave because it “wasn’t acting like one” leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. As a local who brought a friend home for the holidays to visit, I am sad and disappointed that instead of being asked the tasks that they are trained to preform, she was kicked out. I was really looking forward to taking her to...
