Seafood is hard for me. I love steak so much that I usually get it when I go out to nice restaurants. When I go to nice seafood restaurants, all of the items just sound so blah and overdone. Mix them both together and you get a nice seafood restaurant. That's this place. The prices were a little higher, yes, but the entrees they offered are a step above the rest in terms of most places, so you gladly pay the prices.
I came here with my girlfriend and her family that was visiting from Ohio. An Ohioan comes to Florida and they want good seafood, so we came here because we had heard great things about it. They have two to three seatings per night, 5PM, 7PM, and maybe a 9PM. You have to have reservations to guarantee yourself a spot, because they only have a couple dozen seats in there.
We get seated and the server is super nice. She gets us our drinks and then it's decision time. The decision is kind of hard, but at the same time it wasn't. I knew what sounded the best. I got the Kona Coffee Encrusted Norwegian Salmon (100% Kona Coffee Encrusted Norwegian Salmon, Brandy Pecan Butter Melt) and my girlfriend got the Brandy & Bacon Scallops (Fresh Diver Scallops, Brandy Seared with a Brandy Creme Sauce). All entrees are served with coconut rice, black beans, and a fruity pico de gallo.
My salmon was out of this world. The salmon was cooked perfectly, so flaky and moist. The coffee formed a perfect crust that adhered to very inch of the top of that fish. It was an interesting flavor combination that was helped out by the sweet fattiness of the pecan butter melt. I made the right choice here. 5/5 dish.
My girlfriend's dish was a little smaller and a little more expensive, but scallops are supposed to be a more premium item anyway. I was surprised at the amount of scallops they gave her. There were like eight of those suckers, and they were good medium sized ones, too. Cooked perfectly. Absolutely. There's something a little pleasantly jarring about a perfectly cooked scallop. The sauce made the whole bite super creamy and the sides matched up well with this one. This is the dish to order. 6/5.
We split two desserts. The Key Lime Pie (Old School Recipe Prepared Fresh with Real Key Lime Juice) and the Maui Wowie Mud Pie (Chocolate Macadamia Nut Ice Cream Pie Thick Hot Fudge, Cookie Crumble, Macadamia Nuts, Coffee Ice Cream).
The Key lime pie was so good. Not like the bright neon colored ones that they sell at Walmart. It was not too sweet and had the perfect touch of lime. The better of the two desserts. The description of the miud pie will tell you all you need to know about it. It's very decadent. You should be able to choose between them pretty easily.
Overall, wow, this place was dynamite. I haven't run into this good of a seafood joint since my time living in Pensacola. If you're reading this, and you've actually read this far into my rambling,...
Read moreAfter reading the reviews and looking at the website, we were so excited to eat here. While the food was wonderful, we found the service and the atmosphere to be lacking and had a difficult time enjoying the food. We had a reservation for 7:30 PM, showed up on time and were instructed that the other two-tops were finishing up their meal. We had no problem with that, as the restaurant can’t and should not rush their patrons. We waited outside with the other party that had a reservation for 7:30 PM. Through the window we could see that both two-tops had finished eating and left around 7:45 PM. The tables were not cleaned for quite a bit and we were sat after 8 PM. This was a slight annoyance but we were still excited to be there. Since we had waited so long, we were ready to order pretty much immediately and told our server this; she told us she had to get her book and she would be right back. She was not. Another 10 minutes passed while she did other things and even went back to the table next to us who had already ordered their drinks while we waited patiently to order anything. When she finally got to us we were able to order drinks, the tuna appetizer, a ribeye and the mahi. When she came back with our drinks we inquired about the lamb that was mentioned as a good pairing for some of the wine and were told that the restaurant discontinued the lamb due to staffing shortages. Interesting, as we had seen a table outside with lamb but we let it go. 5 minutes later our server returned again, this time to tell us they were out of ribeye and that they could give me the filet. Okay fine, but she was not at all apologetic and even a little pushy about the filet. At this point, we are annoyed, and I guess it was a little obvious because a different server started assisting us at this point. We later found at that in fact the restaurant did have lamb and that it was one of the specials along with scallops that had been offered to other tables and not to us because our server not only neglected to tell us but blatantly lied about. Truly, at this point you’d think the restaurant would do anything to try to make reparations for the blatant lies and bad service… but no, we paid full price for a meal we didn’t order, for being seated 30 minutes after our reservation, and for our server to just abandon us at a table because she was embarrassed about being caught in said lie. The only saving grace for the night was really how good the food was and the other server that came to help us and was honest about the circumstances. For two individuals who have worked many years in the service industry, specifically serving at and managing restaurants, to say we were disappointed us an...
Read moreI typically don't write negative reviews but I felt like there was some misrepresentations that I want to share for others considering it and overall it wasn't terrie but not a great experience service wise. Most other reviews say otherwise, so maybe it was just an off night. Definitely not $$ as Google said, we went to a "$$$" place the night before and the food was as good or better but for less money, larger portions, a better ambiance and better service. This should be marked $$$-$$$$. I'm happy to pay that when I'm expecting it and the service/experience reflect it. As other reviews say the food tasted good, which it should for an average $44 entree price (the appetizers are also $25-40). I would say just a lot of little things added up that I wouldn't have cared as much about individually (or if it was really only $$ price range). To list a couple of the frustrations, we were crammed into tight spaces and for fine dining I expect a little more space, privacy, etc, had to wait a while for everything, especially ordering, while other tables who got there after us were already getting their food. Given the multiple servers and only a few tables we're not sure why the inattentiveness and long delays. They never refilled our empty water cups once in the 1.5 hours. The menu said EACH entree came with chips and hummus, among other sides, they didn't inform us there was any modification or unavailable items in what we ordered but our 3 entrees came out with a single small serving of chips and Pico de Gallo... to share...no hummus (again normally wouldn't care except for the price and the menu misrepresenting). One of the sides was the wrong one which they of course fixed but we had to wait, flag them down to tell them as we weren't asked if everything came out OK, and again it involved waiting to get the right food. We had to flag down again to pay our bills. Etc. Overall good tasting food, make a reservation, and expect to pay $50-$75 per person not counting apps, desserts, or...
