Chameleon Kava Lounge — Restaurant in Cocoa

I recently visited Chameleon Kava Lounge (formerly The Joint Kava Lounge), and I have to say that my experience was incredibly disappointing. What was once a great place to relax and enjoy high-quality kava has unfortunately taken a turn for the worse under its new management.

First and foremost, cleanliness seems to be a major issue. On multiple occasions, I noticed German roaches crawling out from behind the bar area. This is not only unhygienic but raises serious concerns about the overall sanitation of the establishment. It made me extremely uncomfortable, and I lost any confidence that the space is being properly maintained.

Additionally, the quality of the kava and other products has noticeably declined. The drinks lacked the smoothness and effectiveness that I was accustomed to at this lounge in the past. It feels like they’ve either cut corners on the ingredients or simply don’t care about providing a good product anymore.

The atmosphere, which was once welcoming and vibrant, now feels uninviting. The staff seemed indifferent and unenthusiastic, making it clear that customer service is no longer a priority here. I understand that changes happen when management switches, but this decline in both product quality and cleanliness is unacceptable.

The first time I went here I had called beforehand to ask if the kava bar allowed minors and was told they did as long as they didn’t buy kava. Which I was simply looking for a hangout spot so that wasn’t a big deal. I have been there many times with my friends, we’re all 16, and 17, only really ordering sodas or food. No kava whatsoever nor interest in kava. Never had a problem with our presence. Today, 07/02/25 my friends and I decided to go hangout at the establishment to play some board games and enjoy the relaxing environment on this rainy day. I went to the cashier to ask how much we had to pay to hangout here. Her name is supposedly Josie, she said $5. So we were about to figure out what to order and she says “if you’re underage you have to have a parent with you..” when we have never had this issue. I mentioned we have been here many times and never with a parent. She told us it was her preference and that we had to leave. So we left. Very upset with this interaction as we have never shown the slightest interest in kava whatsoever, and we always have thought it was an awesome hangout spot. Wont be coming back however if us being one year younger than 18 is such an issue to a quote “family friendly establishment with the exception of no kava ordering.” The attitude Josie gave was unnecessary. Chameleon Kava is hands down one of the best kava spots in Brevard! Owners Mike and Dana are absolutely amazing, and their staff of Arianna, Sign, and Katie are incredibly knowledgeable and always ready to share a friendly "Bula!" The kava pours are generous, the extracts are incredibly smooth, and the overall vibe is welcoming and laid-back. Beyond great drinks, they offer a variety of events, including poker, trivia, and pool nights, with poker being the crowd favorite.
