My wife and I decided to try Mitchell’s Diner for the first (and last) time this past Saturday, November 2, 2024. When we arrived, we walked into a busy diner with sticky floors, but we were very pleasantly greeted by staff and sat at our table. I went to the restroom prior to sitting down and found that the restroom appeared to be neglected and was not very clean. Initially, I just attributed this to the restaurant being busy, and staff had not had a chance to clean it due to the rush. I returned to my table to find our waitress, Trinity, already greeting my wife and was explaining some of the menu items. Trinity was very nice, had a great personality, and was very helpful. She was very prompt at bringing us our drinks and taking our order. After receiving our drinks, my wife and I were sitting at the table when suddenly a large cockroach crawled up her leg and onto her shirt. As you can imagine, my wife freaked out, let out a scream, and tried to get the cockroach off her. Finally, she was able to swipe the cockroach off her shirt and the cockroach landed on the table. I saw a large, approximately two-inch-long cockroach now sitting on our table. I quickly knocked the cockroach off the table onto the floor where another guest crushed to cockroach with her shoe. Trinity approached our table and asked my wife if she was okay. My wife was very shaken up and was immediately grossed out. We decided we would try to stay to eat, especially since we drove almost 30 minutes to get to the restaurant. The guest at the table behind us just received his food and immediately asked for a box to take his food to go. As he walked out, he told us that there was a dead cockroach under his table as well. After hearing this, my wife and I decided that we could not eat the food. The food had not yet been brought to our table. Trinity returned to our table, and we explained that we couldn’t stay to eat due to the circumstances. Trinity stated that she understood. My wife asked Trinity if we owed her anything. Trinity replied that she would be responsible for paying the bill if we chose to leave. Given the circumstance of the cockroaches, and being disgusted and unable to eat, we chose to leave the restaurant. At no time did a manager approach us or our table to apologize, or to see what was going on. The staff also acted like this was a normal occurrence and that this was nothing out of the ordinary. Additionally, it is complete and utter nonsense that Trinity should be responsible for paying for our food when we left due to the restaurant being filthy and cockroaches crawling around the dining room, and on my wife! I am highly disappointed in our experience, but I think I am even more disappointed in the fact that management saw no need to say anything to us. I think it is a disgrace that the restaurant feels it necessary that Trinity covers the cost of the bill given the circumstances. If Trinity was forced to cover our bill, the restaurant owner should immediately reimburse her!! I don’t know what disgusts me more, the fact that the restaurant is filthy with cockroaches, or the fact that the management didn’t seem to care and makes the waitress pay the bill. We will never return to...
Read moreI want to start my review off by saying I’m a GM at a corporate breakfast restaurant back home in Indiana. Im the worst and the best customer when I go out to eat. I know the industry so I know what corners can get cut and when a restaurant is cutting too many. I see it daily and will walk out if I see too many corners being cut in FOH bc that means BOH is cutting anymore.I can tell Mitchells doesn’t cut corners!!! They care about the four walls around them and the food coming out of the kitchen. You can feel it from the moment you walk in till the moment you walk out.
It was early, we were hungry. We had just got off a cruise and needed a place to eat breakfast, fast. Mitchell’s blew my mind! We walked in, wasn’t sure if we sat ourselves or not. Another customer saw us and said “come on in, find a seat they’ll take good care of you!” AND THEY DID!!!
The server was amazing, she could tell we had never been there and gave us recommendations. We took her up on the country fried chicken breakfast. IT WAS THE BEST CFC IVE EVER HAD BEFORE IN MY LIFE, and it’s on the menu at the restaurant I work at. Every CFC I eat from this moment on will be compared to this one and they will ALL fall short.
There wasn’t an item on my plate that wasn’t the tastiest item I’ve ever ate. Grits, creamy and delicious! Boyfriend had hashbrowns with his, they were cooked perfectly, couldn’t taste oil at all! Eggs were made correctly, perfect over medium which is hard to get without scorching the whites. They nailed it! Whoever the cook was Monday morning is one of the best cooks Ive never met ;) and idk how much they make but it’s not enough, give them whatever they want to keep them employed! Good cooks don’t come by often and this place has a excellent one, their food speaks volumes for what they bring to this restaurant.
We took leftovers back to my mom’s house bc the portions are so generous. At 8pm that night, my 3 kids, my boyfriend and myself were all gathered around the leftover boxes eating everything cold. Don’t judge us but the food was just as good 12 hours later, straight out of the fridge cold as can be!
If you’re up in the air about stopping by and grabbing something to eat, please do! We only make it down to the area about once a year and we need this place to be here next time we’re in town. Im going to be thinking about the chicken until the next time I get to order it. It’s going to be a long year for me and every CFC I have between...
Read moreIt was ok tasting food but overall much of the food was either way over cooked or cooked under. My mother ordered a burger medium and it came rare but the waitress never came to check if the food was correct so my mom just ended up eating it as it was and got ill. My fiance ordered bourbon chicken dinner and though the sauce made it taste really good the chicken was cooked to dry, stringy, death. The chicken tenders on my chicken and waffles were cooked in bad oil and I ordered 2 additional eggs, 1 over medium and the other over hard for my 1 year old. They came out over easy (practically raw even because there was still uncooked white) and over medium and again couldn't complain because there was no waitress around. We also had to ask for drink refills after they'd stayed empty for most of the meal.
Also their menu noted that eggs added to an entree would be .75 each so i figured I'd get charged $1.50 for the two (and wouldn't bother fussing over the charge even though the eggs were badly cooked). Instead on the check the eggs came to $2.75 a la cart because they argued that my chicken and waffles wasn't an entree. I asked to add them to the dinner entree my fiance ordered instead and they said they couldn't do that either because it was dinner not breakfast. By that argument you can never get the eggs at .75 because practically every breakfast item is a la cart not an entree except for the huge breakfast platter for $14.75.
Knowing what it's like for a server i wouldn't usually penalize them on the tip for what mostly was kitchen issues, but since she wasn't around for us to send things back to the kitchen and the ridiculous a la cart price for 2 eggs (i could buy 18 eggs at that price and still have money left) i left a measely $2 tip. If food is bad but the server is present, ready to fix issues, filling drinks as needed, then I'd rather pay the server more than 20% for all the trouble (heck if the food is really awful to inedible standards I've gotten food comped and tipped the server the cost of the check for her trouble). But bad service plus shoddy food makes for a terrible experience.
First time trying this place after my parents had been there many times before and they talked very highly of it. After this experience and my mom getting sick I doubt any of us will return...
