While my cousin already left a review, I feel that her review was very light and does not truly show the magnitude of the service we received. There was no wait when we walked in seeing as we came at 5:07 and they close at 6. We were immediately sat - after being stared at when we walked in because they couldn’t decide who was going greet and sit us.
We placed our order all at once, which means we ordered our drinks, appetizers and our entrees all at once. I would understand if it was busy when we walked in but our waitress had one table when we walked in and then she was our server - keep in mind the table she had was the next table to us and they were at the end of their meal and leaving. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks. I ordered a Diet Coke, when she brought it, I took one sip and my drink was flat. Granted I would have told our waitress earlier but she never came to check on us. After another 20-30 minutes then came our food. At that time I told her I would like to swap this out, her response was “it was flat?”, so as a consumer that tells me you KNEW my drink was flat and still brought it to me KNOWINGLY. It was swapped for a tea that I couldn’t drink as I was already over the whole experience I’ve had thus far. Then it doesn’t help that a buss boy had to get our waitress because we had been sitting so long without our food.
At this time, I asked the waitress to pack up our appetizers and put them in to go boxes, seeing as we still hadn’t received them. She immediately made a face of shock, once again as a consumer that tells me either you forgot our order or just forgot to bring them to us. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. My waffle was drowned in butter, like most I dislike a soggy waffle, so I only ate the edges as they were the only part that wasn’t wet and drenched in butter. For my chicken while it was fried it was a wet fried, 1) because of the butter, 2) the chicken was not fried enough / had been sitting in its own juices.
We had to flag down another waitress to tell our waitress to grab our check, because the only time we saw her was to take our order and drop off our food. Never once did she check on us, not once did she stop to give us an update on our food. I was highly upset considering we had watched another couple come in and order. They had received their food / appetizers before us, especially since they sat down well after us.
I’d have more compassion if the restaurant was busy and packed but to reiterate, our waitress only had two tables, which was us (2 people) and a table of 4 - one of which was a child, who just sat well after the the table she had prior to us. There is no excuse for the service we received today. I will not be returning and if someone was to ask how it was I would express...
Read morePicture this: It’s 9° on a deceptively sunny winter morning, and I’ve made the bold promise to meet one of my international connections for brunch at a Black-owned gem in Atlanta. Who’s braving frostbite for waffles, you ask? Me. That’s who. I bundled up, drove 35 minutes into the city, and surprisingly found parking with ease—because, let’s be honest, who else is risking frozen extremities for brunch on a holiday?
From the moment I stepped inside The Real Milk and Honey, I understood why this place was packed. Though no one greeted me immediately, the energy in the room was magnetic. I spotted my friend, already tucked into a cozy corner table, and our server, the fabulous and oh-so-patient UniQue, greeted me with a smile, saying, “Oh, she told me you were parking. Welcome!” That small detail set the tone for what was about to be a fantastic brunch experience.
Now, let’s talk food—because wow. I came in determined to try those honey biscuits I’d seen all over Instagram, and let me just say: they did not disappoint. My friend and I split an order because, you know, waistlines. But by the second bite, I deeply regretted not ordering a whole batch for myself (and one to hoard for later). They were buttery, flaky, and drizzled with honey that whispered, “Calories don’t count today.”
For my main dish, I went with the catfish and grits. When I asked UniQue about the difference between that and the platter, she broke it down: $3 and some potatoes. I opted for the simpler version because, hey, grits were already doing the carb-heavy lifting. The catfish was flavorful, though a tad overcooked—so crispy that some of the flesh flirted with becoming jerky. That said, the grits and sauce were so good, they more than made up for it.
My friend ordered a waffle, scrambled egg, and turkey bacon, and let me tell you, that waffle came out looking like it belonged on the cover of Brunch Monthly. I didn’t have the stomach space to order one myself, but I thoroughly enjoyed it…visually.
The ambiance was another highlight. The music was just right—not so loud that we couldn’t talk, but vibey enough to make me check my volume whenever it paused. The room was full of laughter, conversation, and people genuinely enjoying themselves. And UniQue? She deserves a standing ovation. Patient, attentive, and never once hinting that we were overstaying our welcome—even after an hour of eating, chatting, and plotting world domination.
All in all, The Real Milk and Honey is worth every chilly step it takes to get there. I’m thrilled I ventured out, and I’ll be back (maybe when it’s warmer). If you’re looking for delicious food, stellar service, and good vibes, this spot is a must-visit. Just don’t skimp on those honey biscuits—you’ll...
Read moreHighly disappointed. We were the 3rd guest to arrive. It wasn't busy and pretty empty, and it was after 8:30am when we arrived. Server took a long time to greet us. When she finally did, she was nice about it but then took forever to get our drinks and food. After waiting a while, we noticed more people started coming in and were getting their food before our table. I asked the lady who seated us (not our Server) how long was our food going to be since everybody who was seated after us was getting their food before us. She responded with an attitude "your table had the steak and eggs we know, it's coming" and walked off. I thought that was odd since that was our first time asking her how long would it be for the food to be out to our table. I overheard her telling our Server what she just told our table and talking bad about our table questioning the timing of our food. Our Server didn't seem to care either, since she was focused on the men at her other table and playing around with the male Bartender instead of checking on our food. I guess since the 18% Gratuity is automatically added to the check, she didn't care about her poor customer service. She didn't ask us if we needed refills or napkins, etc. Among the little things. So in her mind she already got her Tip. For our table to have spent over $157, the service should've been better and food was not worth it. Overly priced menu, watered shrimp and grits, Salmon was undercooked, French Toast burnt, eggs were cold and steak was burnt. The 8oz steak or lack thereof, was more like a flank steak strip and not worth $40. It was no where near 8oz. I would rather a refund. Not even worth a 1 star review. The funny thing is that the review before mine gave them a 5 star review. Of course they did, they were one of the guest that were seated AFTER our table was waiting for a while that got their food BEFORE us. So I would give them 5 stars too. Lol.
Update: Owner gave me a Google Voice number on here and told me to reach out. I tried to give them the courtesy to make it right since it was over the weekend since my Review on Saturday - 06/01/24. It is now Tuesday - 06/04/24 and no call back from the owner. The owner was so quick to respond to this review but never called me back when requested after leaving them a voicemail. It's been 3 days and no response. But I'm sure they'll get back to responding to...
