The Friendly Tavern — Restaurant in Coloma

The food was great but the service was really bad. This was the second one time I have had bad service there. But this time was the worst. This waitress (DB) was really something else. She was way to chatty with other people. It took her about 3 trips around the bar chatting before she took our drink orders then it took about 2 or 3 more trips around the bar chatting before she brought them to us as she brought another tables plate of bread and butter and apps. Then a few more chats around the bar before she came back to take our order. Then finally got the order taken. She went and did her thing chatting it up which is ok since she's suppose to be friendly with the customers but need to pay attention to her customers. Ok so she came by and said the order should be up soon. And like 5-8 min later it was up. And this boy brought the food out on a tray and she was behind the bar and he takes the tray to her and she points over to us and has him bring it over to us. And I had to ask him if we get the plate of bread and butter and he said yeah and went and got it and brought it to us and we had to ask him for napkins and silverware because she wasn't around. Then when he went to get it for us she comes walking up asking if we needed anything and we told her the boy was getting it so she went back to him and took the napkins and silverware and brought it over. Then she went back to doing her thing. We ate and was full ready to go and sitting there waiting for her to come by so we could get 2 boxes. She finally came over and I said I need a box and my mom said she wanted one. So a few more trips of "chatty Kathy" and she gets 2 and just hands one box then hands the other box to the table behind us. And we all look at each other and just shook our heads so after a few more rounds of talking to the people sitting at the bar again she came back with the bill we had to ask for the other box. Then took another 10 min she came back to get the money and we thought she was going to get the change back and bill paid... Oh no she had to stop and chat with a guy at the bar standing there holding our bill and cash..normally when people give money to pay the bill they are ready to leave. Not wanting to sit there watching the waitress talk to a guy holding it. Then she finally went to take care of the bill and that took some more time because she needed help doing it. Finally got the change back and we could leave. It was so ridiculous and I really dont think I will be back anytime soon there especially if she is there working. She didn't even ask if we wanted any dessert. Also one order was messed up asked for the regular friendly chicken sandwich and pub fries and thought she wrote it down because she said "ok so you dont want the spicy" and we got the spicy. not good for someone that can't have spicy food. Very disgusted...

The service as for our waiters was good. They had some one running food and this person kept coming by our table and interrupting our dinner cause seemed as if she didn't know her tables she kept asking where were she stopped at our table 3 times ask if what she had was our order and it wasn't. I watched her almost trip and drop food on floor was very loud. The very last time and fourth time she couldn't find her table she came up talking and even patty my shoulder few times as if she new me and acted like I knew where things were. Each time she came I politely told no and tried continue my conversation with my husband.when came time for our food she brought out I don't know if she realized it was our table bit next thing I knew our waitress had it and brought to us. As we strayed to eat we realized my husband burger had jalapeños on ot which he asked for none at all. So his got taken back to be redone. Usually or food service and atmosphere is 5 stars but I would say if they are gone continue having the person deliver food they should make sure they know the tables so not running around all over trying find the tables and yell they should not continue interrupting people as they eat now maybe few times would been fine but she continuously did this to several tables not just ours we were their about hour and half total. I will add she even made comment that she should know the tables and not have this problem finding them like she is. I generally don't write restaurant reviews and in fact, this is my first!

This is not the first time we ate at the Friendly Tavern. It was not on our radar this last Saturday night however; we were in transit and passing nearby, and found ourselves hungry. It was a no brainier to go back to the Friendly Tavern.

As with the first two times we visited before; the service was great; the food was really very good; and the atmosphere was relaxing.

What amazed me on this visit that compelled me to write this is there was one little mishap - our appetizer order got lost (did not make it to the kitchen). Not a big deal as we asked about it when the food was delivered and we knew it would come. Well, it so happens that the person delivering our food was the owner who advised us what happen and apologized! A very sincere apology. After making sure all the rest of the order was ok he went off to assure it got right in (He even asked if we still wanted it! .... We did). A very short time later our waitress delivered us our appetizer. She also apologies! And it was heart felt too!

As we were paying our bill the wonderful waitress again apologized for the restaurant. It was wonderful feeling knowing they cared so much about us and their customers.

We must say this kind of behavior is NOT typical in restaurants today. Friendly Tavern got our vote. WE WILL BE BACK! We strongly suggest...
