It is such a shame that we will never patronize one of our favorite breakfast spots again, but when your additional cost of doing business is over-inflated, that is the price tag that comes with it. My wife and I walked in this morning, completely undeterred by the sign on the door stating that due to the rising cost of food there would be an additional charge of $1.00 added to each entree. No big deal, we get it. My wife had the one by one by one which is priced at $4.99 with rye toast; they added $2 for the one piece of bacon and $2 for the toast. My wife's one egg was not edible due to the shell in the egg; she took 3 bites and was done. She didn't tell me until afterwards because she knows that I would have refused to pay for it. I had the breakfast bologna sandwich on rye which is priced at $5.99 and they added $2 for the rye after telling me I could have it on whichever bread I desired. I also asked for JUST a spoonful of gravy on my sandwich becauseI didn't want or need a full cup of gravy priced at $3; I simply wanted one freakin' spoonful of gravy on my sandwich; I cannot imagine what it would have cost for mayo! I guess the cook refused to add a spoonful of gravy which I expected to pay about 50 cents for and was served the $3 side of gravy without any communication until we were presented with our check. The most offensive part was the single 6" blueberry pancake that cost $8.55. I was sure this was just a typo but upon inquiring I was informed that the single flapjack, that on the menu was priced at $3.25, was actually $6.55 with an additional charge of $2 for the blueberries. SERIOUSLY??? I could have gone somewhere else and gotten a short stack with blueberries for the same, maybe less. We each had coffee that I am sure was priced at $1.50 on the menu and I am quite certain we were charged $2.90 for each cup. All in all, the total was $36.90 and I left hungry. We could have gone to the Mason Jar and spent about the same but had a nice gourmet latte and left stuffed with leftovers for lunch but we wanted to support a small locally-owned business AND not spend over $20-25. I could have gone to Phoenix Street in South Haven and had chicken & waffles and a bloody mary for $22. The biggest issue is that all these extra charges were not communicated beyond what the sign on the door stated. The food and service has always been good, but not good enough to justify nearly $20 each for our meal. I am sorry to rate the service as low as I did, but it is the responsibility of a server to communicate any differences on prices from what the menu reflects, as well as to let the patron know that a specific request cannot or will not be accommodated, such as the case with a spoonful of gravy vs. a whole...
Read moreI decided to stop in and get some breakfast and lunch, so my husband is very particular about our food, as far as processed and the quality of food cooking, so I ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy, (1 biscuit) 2 eggs scrambled and two slices of bacon, and toast, then order sausage in the gravy because it doesn’t come in it, I was like ok that’s fine, the toast was burnt, and they had cut up a sausage patty into huge pieces and put it in the gravy, then lunch I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and side of coleslaw and a cup of chili and crackers, I had specifically asked if the chili was canned or homemade, because I don’t eat canned chili, I was told it was homemade, sure go ahead and I’ll take a cup, I get the food and the burger is processed, super crispy beyond well done, the tomatoe was mushy and old, the lettuce was watered in the middle not crisp whatsoever, the bun fell apart it was stale, the French fries were not cooked properly at all, they were like just on the outside and then cold and firm like a potato, the chili was canned chili , it has a taste so you definitely know the difference between homemade and canned, super bummed out! The crackers are so stale, and the coleslaw was rancid and they put sugar in it to cover the taste. And the price was over $40 for a burger and fries a four oz cup of canned chili and a 2 egg breakfast with a single biscuit and gravy, and I had left a $7 tip because it was to go and I had assumed the food was good, and the server was very polite and friendly, the building is very small, but you have to sit right on top of everyone and hear everything everyone is talking about, I don’t normally leave reviews but this was a huge surprise and disappointment because for $50 I could have gotten a decent breakfast and burger and fries just right down the street! There menu is way over priced for the quality of food ! We didn’t even...
Read moreWe are visiting the area and found this on Google and the menu looked good and the reviews were good, I checked the wait online for 3 adults and two kids, and received a text that there was little to no wait and headed over (13 min drive) , walked in at 11:15 (they close at 1) , one server was inside and a table was eating and two other tables were sat getting their order taken by her, and don’t get me wrong I served to pay my bills for many years and understand being overwhelmed although I NEVER would treat a guest like they were a problem when they are the ones walking in the door so I can make money.. anyway, we were instantly greeted with an attitude and told to sit wherever, we go to sit at the only size table suitable for 5 and she huffs and puffs no not there, then throws her hands up and acts annoyed at the thought of pushing a two top over to a 4 top. Crazy rude attitude and we were made to feel like we were a nuisance for walking in, lol. We left and went to mason jar cafe, way busier restaurant but had a much much...
