I have a minor gluten sensitivity and tolerate their pizza with zero issues, which is a HUGE victory in terms of finding real long-fermented sourdough. I do wish they had a simple pepperoni pizza or other classic (or creative!) topping options. I have had trouble with service in the sense that I’ve tried ordering several pizzas ahead of time both online and over the phone for gatherings and have gotten zero communication whatsoever. Often the online ordering system doesn’t work, and no one answers the phone or calls back when leaving a voicemail. The last time this happened I called an hour before my event and it was the one time they answered and I got confirmation that my order not only existed and was received, but that they were in fact working on the order and it’d be ready. To say I was stressed about being able to feed 30 people is an understatement, but it was a hit. Everyone loved it and kept asking where it was from. I’ve also had some wait at the counter when ordering, and wish there were more of an emphasis on actually being hosted at this restaurant and table service. I think it’s an important element to patrons feeling welcomed, cared for, and feeling that anchor of understanding the face and intention of Stellina’s. It feels like the only thing really missing from the overall lovely vibe. I’m from Portland, OR and this walkable neighborhood gem gives me such positive nostalgia. I wish there were more neighborhood food establishments such as this one in the Springs. I consider this to be one of my favorite spots to eat in the COS food scene so I always recommend it to friends and overall find the food worth the...
Read moreIf you are looking for REAL pizza, this is it, Stellina's Pizza Cafe. I consider myself an expert at evaluating pizza, from the flour, yeast, and origin of the tomatoes on up. I'm someone's travelled to many parts of the world sampling pizza, and was raised on pizza in NY. Stellina's describe themselves as Roman style pizza, and while I haven't had exactly this style while in Rome, I can tell you it's awesome, simple as that, now I'll tell you why: They have a sourdough crust, which in an of itself takes work, just to create the sourdough, which means they have great yeast. They use a blend of white and wheat in their sourdough, this is great, and adds to the texture and color of their deliciously crispy crust which no surprise, has a sourdough flavor! Lovely tomatoes, I can quite detect their origin, but very good, probably minimal ingredients and cooking in their sauce. delicious mozzarella cheese, possibly a blend.
Building a Pizza is like building a house. If you have weak foundation, it doesn't matter so much to a discerning palette if you've shovel on a wheel barrow full of toppings. You must get the foundation right, then focus on the toppings. Both times I got their meatball pie, just enough meatball on each slice, to suffice, and still taste the artistry of their pizza base.
I highly recommend this restaurant and I doubt you'll find significantly better pizza in the Springs, this place will...
Read moreThey have a chic ambiance - modern, clean edges and minimalist. We came here on a Sat afternoon and it wasn't too busy. Parking could be an issue as there is street parking outside in the residential area so lots of cars are already parked in the area.
We ordered the burrata and the rocket pizza with prosciutto. For drinks, we got the aperitivo wine slushy and the limoncello.
The burrata was good but the crostini was very very crisp. It could've been a little more bread-like and less toast-like. The pesto sauce and the veggies on the side were very good, especially the little tomatoes. The rocket pizza was good too. A little too much arugula for my taste, but the base of multiple cheese and prosciutto was very good. The pizza is roman style which means the crust wasn't very thick but also not very thin.
I didn't like the wine slushy but my limoncello was good. It was pretty smooth and didn't hit until I had drunk the whole thing.
My friend also got the orange stracciatella ice cream. She loved it. I thought it could've had more orange in it.
All in all, a decent meal. They have some other pizza options which we will try out...
