I chose DML Computer Repair because of it's mostly positive Google reviews - hopefully this one will level the playing field. After my PC stopped recognizing my OS, I dropped off my laptop on a Saturday morning (The location is essentially a storage closet in the back of another building). I was told that it would be diagnosed and ready to go by Monday afternoon at the latest. However, when Monday rolled around and I had heard nothing from David (who I assume is the owner). I called and David seemed to be confused, saying that him and his technicians didn't even show up until around noon that day. That's cool though, IT Guys know how to party I guess.
Finally, on Wednesday, I received a text from David, complete with grammar mistakes, that informed me that I needed to call him because there was more than one problem with my PC (at this point, David was unaware that I'm an engineer for a major HDD manufacturer).
So I called him, and he explained exactly what I had written on the drop off sheet as possible problems. Not only did he "explain" what was wrong, he made sure to ask (in a quite demeaning tone) if I knew what an OS was, what a SSD did, and how a computer used an SSD and HDD to boot the OS. Just super, looks like I just got schooled in computer knowledge by a man in sweats and a #1 Dad t shirt.
BUT HERE'S WHERE THINGS GET GOOD.
David insisted that he wouldn't be able to get my files off of my PC until Friday night, so I met him at his store at 6 PM that night. After parking at the next door McDonald's (the only convenient place to park), I approached the back door to see a man dressed in all black standing outside. As I walked up, the man (who was David) told me that he locked himself out of his own building. At this point, I told him that I simply wanted my laptop back, and was not willing to wait any longer to get it as it had already been 6 days for a simple diagnosis.
After saying that his keys were across town, David then angrily said "Fine, you want me to break into the building, I'll break into the building." So, I stood in the dark lot/side street that is the entrance to his store, while he STRAIGHT UP ATTACKED THE LOCK with a screw driver - and pliers - and a different screw driver - and a crow bar - and a coat hanger. Somewhere in there, he entered his car and made a phone call with the door closed, and then returned to violating the lock. (Here I was thinking that he had just phoned his IT boys to come take me out). Over 40 minutes went by - I was scared that he was going to turn his little screwdrivers on me next - and I even faked a phone call at one point. But FINALLY, after the incredibly long and sketchy wait, a beat up vehicle playing loud music pulled up, rolled down it's window, and handed out a key that David used to get inside and bring me my PC.
Since this incident, my life has been forever changed. I have trouble talking to the IT guy at work - for fear that David is working through him. I CAN NEVER EVER LOOK AT A LOCK THE SAME WAY AGAIN. Items that say #1 Dad on them now have a whole new meaning. I watch my back carefully, every where I go. I've tried disinfecting my laptop countless times now, but still I cannot wash away his touch. My psychologist friend says that it could take years to recover. Please, save yourself from years in recovery, at least $10 in disinfectant, and retain your ability to use a door lock by getting your PC fixed...

If you want to know my whole story: I cannot say enough good things about DML. I have an 8 year old laptop that was ahead of it's time 8 years ago. Fast forward to 2020 and I start using my laptop a whole lot more because I'm working from home due to COVID. Three weeks ago, I ordered a new laptop online because I figured it was probably on it's last leg being that I had worked from home on it all year, but the new laptop has been stuck in the USPS Christmas overload and has not been delivered. On Friday, 12/18/2020, I log in and try to get to work, but I kept getting corrupt file messages which I figured was the HD on it's way out. I wiped the harddrive and at this point, figured it was impossible for me to find a harddrive to install and have the tank ready for work on Monday so I started looking for a used laptop to hold me over until I get the new one. I called DML, spoke to David, he told me that they did have a used laptop and would have it ready by 5pm. I showed up at 5pm to pick it up and it was ready, but I thought I would ask them if they had a harddrive for my laptop (what can I say, it's a tank!, and it was ahead of it's time 8 years ago, so why not try to salvage it?). So he checked it out real quick and he confirmed that the harddrive was in fact beginning to fail and they stated they could have my old laptop up and running like new within 24-hours! What?!? I wouldn't have to miss any more days at work and I wouldn't have to order a harddrive online and wait for it (like I've been waiting 3 weeks for my new laptop)?!? I even upgraded the ram and operating system (to get it up with the current times). They were able to do all of that for a STEAL OF A PRICE (I now regret even buying a new laptop). David called me 1 1/2 hours before the estimated completion time, I went and picked it up, came home and have been on it for the last couple of hours getting it ready for work tomorrow and it's running flawlessly - faster than I ever remember my little tank being. Thank you so much David and Dee - you guys saved me from having to miss work this week! You guys...
Read moreFriendly staff and I really like their repair mindset. They not only diagnosed for free, but fixed my PC multiple times at no cost to myself afterwards. Smart people, not trying to take advantage of you. Would recommend over any others to anyone in the ABQ area.
For those who wish to read my account:
Summary: DML followed through on their commitment to the job, and they did this at a cost to themselves for the benefit of the customer and the device.
I have had a hard time finding a good repair shop in town. Many have delivered minimal effort for uncompetitive prices, others have refused to work on devices due to difficult manufactures or labor intensive repairs. DML first got on my radar for a screen repair job. They gave me the most competitive price for a full replacement that I'd found, and got the job done weeks ahead of the waitlists I was getting from other places. I ended up having to take my computer back in a few times before they finally got it totally fixed, but I'm so glad I decided to come back. They more than made up for it. They replaced out of pocket many hundreds of dollars of parts completely, as the manufacturer would not send them in smaller pieces. They also provided a partial refund for the initial repair job. Absolutely unheard of customer service. I have learned the hard way that you can't trust manufacturer's warranties, but I'm pretty confident you can trust DML (and their...
