Tucked away in Cañon City near the Royal Gorge, 8 Mile Bar & Grill offers an inviting, casual setting with a distinctly outdoorsy charm. The space is well-suited for families and pet owners alike, featuring dog-friendly amenities such as a dedicated dog menu and water bowls, ensuring every guest, human or canine, feels welcome.
During my visit, I opted for the chicken basket while my four-legged companion enjoyed the chopped chicken bowl. The chicken strips, though straightforward in flavor, were executed with care and cooked to a precise doneness. The fries deserve special mention: uniformly cut, impeccably seasoned, and boasting a crisp exterior that suggested a thoughtful double-frying method. This detail elevated an otherwise simple dish.
The chopped chicken for my dog appeared well-seasoned and freshly prepared. Judging by my dog’s enthusiasm, it was thoroughly enjoyed, which reflects well on the kitchen’s consistency, even for its canine patrons.
Service was pleasant and accommodating. Guests are free to choose any outdoor seating, though the establishment’s counter-ordering system does raise a small logistical question for pet owners since dogs are not permitted inside. When I brought my dog in to place our order, the staff were entirely unfazed, handling it with an ease that speaks to their familiarity with such situations. A water bowl was provided immediately, and the staff’s friendly demeanor extended to all guests, both human and canine. The only minor drawback was the delay in securing a refill for my drink, given that the self-serve fountain is located indoors, but staff responded promptly once asked.
Pricing is fair and accessible, with my meal priced at $16 and the dog’s portion at a reasonable $5. Considering the setting, quality, and pet-friendly approach, 8 Mile Bar & Grill delivers solid value.
8 Mile Bar & Grill is a worthy choice for families seeking a laid-back meal and for dog owners who appreciate establishments that genuinely welcome their pets. It is a pleasant respite that breaks up the routine in the best possible way. I give 8 Mile Bar & Grill 4 out of 5 stars because while the atmosphere, food, and dog-friendly touches are all excellent, they lose a star for the logistical questions their counter-ordering system creates for dog owners and for the minor delay in getting a drink refill when...
Read moreWe ate here after our morning rafting trip on 7/28/2020. We were told the service would be a little on the slower side since they had a rush due to the rafting trips coming back in. Since we had three hours until our next adventure in Canon City we went ahead and got seated.
By the time the waitress took our drink order I should have insisted on her also taking the food order since we didn't see her for at least another 20 minutes.
When we hit the 1 hour mark and saw people who were seated after us had their food orders we started asking any server passing our table to get our server to find out when it would be ready. Just as we were ready to cancel our food order and pay for the beers, part of our order finally made it out of the kitchen. Most of it was nice and hot, but the onion rings clearly had been sitting for awhile and we were still waiting for other items. These were simple basket type orders, nothing complex. The fish part of the fish and chips was really decent...just not at the table at the same time as the chips.
Once we got all of our order, to save time, I asked for the check and provided the method of payment. When she brought it back I was very concerned that the amount they charged my card was more than what was on the check. When I asked for the explanation, at first I was told they rang up the wrong table but then I was told they didn't have a pint on the check so the amount they charged my card was correct. That's fine but don't give me a check with one amount and then charge my card more.
Very frustrated by the time we left and felt rushed to our next adventure even though we should have had plenty of time even with slow service. The food was fine, but the service was not. I haven't left that small of a tip in a long time, if ever, and I'm not a bad tipper...just ask our river...
Read moreI would give the service 0 stars but I will give 2 stars because the food was decent. I don’t even know where to begin. Let me just start with the fact that we waited over an hour for our food - And there were only 3 other tables seated with customers ...and it was burgers and philly cheese steak. We asked the server about which beer on tap was local and she told us we could walk up to the bar and look. We had initially been at the front desk with a party of 10... we told them to split us or whatever was needed if it was faster we just knew the other family there. So we sat 4 and 6 with our own family at different tables completely apart from each other - not even close- when we got our bill and she informed us of the added 20% gratuity for a party of 10+ ... we didn’t even sit together!!!! ... or get to speak to the people we knew. So she argued with us for a while and we asked to see the manager ... she came back and said she could change it on the 4 top table but not the 6 top table but had no reason.. so again we asked for a manager ... after waiting forever a woman came out who told us she was the “lead” and she continued to be rude and argue us more about the fact that we waited over an hour for our food and then we so conveniently were charged an additional 20% for knowing people we didn’t even sit with. She was snide, told us it just was the way it was...and then threw the server under the bus and said she did it that way because it was easier on the cooks... then said “what do you want me to do? Do you want a free dessert or something” ... we finally got fed up with arguing with her and left. It was convenient to rafting and had a patio, otherwise I would recommend 100% driving on into town. It’s not worth the wait or dealing...
