We had a really nice experience recently renting a Yurt through Royal Gorge Vacation Rentals. Everything was as expected in terms of what was included vs. what we needed to bring with us. Overall, we really enjoyed and plan to come back!
Pros: (1) Beds were super comfy. (2) These have electricity and outlets (ignore older reviews). (3) Great outdoor space: Has a nice outdoor dining area, crochet swing, rocking chairs and loungers, a propane grill and fire table. (4) Family friendly and lots of activities! The site itself has a hiking trail and a small beach. We were also a short drive to the Royal Gorge Bridge + Park, Dinosaur Experience and Ziplining / Rafting activities. My husband and son did a half-day rafting experience and had the best time! (5) Dog friendly :) (6) Good food: the site recommends the Whitewater Grill, which is where ziplining and rafting leave from. We ate lunch there one day and the food was great. There is also a beach volleyball court, horseshoes and axe throwing areas if you're looking for something to do away from the campground.
Cons: (1) Poor cell service (2) Bathrooms were super smelly despite looking clean. (3) Bathroom is like a 5 min walk up a hill if you are staying in a Yurt closer to the water. (Not a deal breaker) (4) Office isn't staffed consistently. It would be nice if someone was there all the time so you could get ice or other supplies when you needed them vs. having to drive 20 min. into town.
I saw a few previous complaints about noise, but we didn't have an issue. We did hear the train when it went by, but this was during the daytime and my kids thought it was cool. Honestly, the sound of the river kind of provides white noise to block out everything else out. That was all we heard when we went to sleep and we all thought it...
Read moreReally great riverfront property. There's not a bad spot. They have all of the yurts and airstream rv's plus the cabins which are separate from everything. Very clean and manicurd property. We stayed in the lime green riverfront yurt and it was great. Yurt were clean (a few dead bugs, cleaning crew should sweep better by beds) but I'm a harsh critic on cleanliness. The bedding was very clean/fresh and soft/comfortable! There is NO A/C in the yurts, just a heads up. It's not a tent, this is glamping and honestly have stayed in a few yurts and this was the first one without a window unit. Would be nice for them to add this to the yurts. Because of this the yurts are very hot during summer months but do cool down and are comfortable by 8/9pm. The yurts also have 2 queen beds with one being up in the ladder loft. A narrow table for supplies and another barstool table. Extra stools and 2 neat chairs. Nightstands. Several plug ins. A Keurig coffee maker. Lights. The Arkansas River that runs thru the property is beautiful! The bathrooms w/showers are good. Clean but buggy (to be expected). They do also have 2 sets of port a pottys each labeled men's/women's. Honestly the cleanest port a pottys I've ever seen!! My whole family prefered them over the actual bathroom building. They have extra seating scattered throughout the property. A big field to play games on(soccer, frisbee, etc). A big outdoor pergola with a fireplace and lots of tables/seating. A very big white tent awning that had outdoor tables/seating, fire pits, corn hole, horseshoe, etc. The 2 staff members we dealt with were awesome and so friendly/helpful! A great property and we'd definitely go back again (in cooler months). Can't wait for...
Read moreDisappointed in my stay here. While the Phoenix unit itself is nice and mostly clean, it lacks some basics, which, at $349/night, was crazy.
The unit offers NONE of the following: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hair dryer or television!
The shower liner has obviously not been cleaned in some time (see video and photo).
The door to the bathroom has an annoying stopper which results in a frustrating game of trying to keep the door open with your foot or hand, or having it close every single time.
The location/setting is pretty, but not close at all to where the yurts and air streams sit river front.
The sofa is absolutely NOT a convertible sofa bed as I had been told. Luckily my two friends couldn’t make this trip, otherwise we would have been stuck sharing one of the queen beds.
And the company is annoying about nickel and diming you for everything: change fee, early check in fee. Even if it’s a change you’re looking to make the day after the initial reservation. Extremely off putting. They did not charge me these fees because I asked to speak to a manager, but it shouldn’t even have to get to that if nothing major is changing (ie, I was trying to change to a different unit for my same dates).
I would not...
