Can I give zero stars? The staff here has absolutely no sense of customer service, instead opting to treat people like trash, always assuming the worst. During a freak hail storm, my brother in law decided to use the duvets in the "glamping" tents to cover his $75,000 Tesla.
$300 to replace a couple of duvets, or $3000 to repair hail damage? Easy choice, right? We had signed a waiver at the start of our stay agreeing to any incidental damages. That should have been the end of this story. Despite this, the owner barged into his tent while he was changing and proceeded to curse him out in front of his wife and four kids, all under the age of 9. He did this with the backup of the lead maid, Amanda, and her husband Joe, the maintenance guy (was he the muscle or something? You afraid of a five-year old kid?).
Everything was downhill from there. We never had any intention of protesting paying for the duvets, but they then began trying to tell us that the towels we used to cover up the cars were now "damaged beyond repair" and couldn't tell us how aside from "You took them outside of the unit." Ummm, how are we supposed to get them to the showers then? Are towels not intended to get wet or dirty? Literally washing and drying them is a thing you do, right? Amanda treated us like human trash during this process, without a shred of empathy or understanding for our situation.
Regardless, we signed to pay for the towels and duvets (as we had intended all along. They tried to keep them, but we told them that if we were paying replacement costs, we wanted the supposed "damaged" products). The duvets had labels that indicated that they could be washed in cold water and dried on low heat, despite them lying and telling us they were dry clean only. We dried the linens at a local laundromat (they wouldn't let us use their dryers after that) and they were good as new, the duvets, the 6 towels, and the top sheet.
Apparently putting them on a car, where they got a little dirt and grass on them, is somehow "damaging" them more than sweaty, writhing, sleeping bodies and the potential disgusting human filth that can and does get on these night after night. And apparently this level of supposed "damage" okays the staff to continue to treat you like garbage for the duration of your stay there, even after the situation is resolved and the "damaged" items paid for.
The next day, with one night to go in our stay, head maid/manager/whatever she is, Amanda, approached us and "invited us to leave." We politely declined, asking why we were being asked to leave and she would not give a reason. We said we had tickets to a train ride in the gorge that day, and she once again lied to us (a habit for them, it seems), and told us that a boulder was on the tracks and that it was canceled. She threatened to call the sheriff to "watch us until we vacated the property, but we told her that unless we got refunds for the train, we would not be leaving immediately. Still confused as to why we were being asked to leave, we agreed to leave after the train ride if we could receive a refund for the final night's stay that we wouldn't be getting (for four cabins/tents).
She made a huff about the refund, the refund amount, and when we did finally leave late in the day, we asked her to check the tents with us present. We didn't want any nasty surprises on the bill that we couldn't dispute, because the staff seemed out to get us. She did an overly thorough checks of the tents, but ultimately didn't find the additional damage she was so obviously looking for. We never got a reason as to why we were being kicked out of the campground.
It honestly not even all that great of a place. The website looks flashy and fancy, but the nearby highway (engine brakes all night long!), close proximity of the tents with no cover or dividers, and constant flyover of the nearby helicopter tours really don't support their whole "You are camping" visage they are trying to get across. It's a lot less luxurious than it might seem at a glance. Not at all worth...

Read moreAs someone who travels quite a bit for work, I stay in all kinds of accommodations and I am usually the first to write a glowing review when I have a pleasant stay. However, that is not the case with Royal Gorge Cabins. Most of the management, and some of the staff, are unprofessional, condescending, confrontational, and unresponsive to guest needs. This was some of the worst customer service I have experienced in my nearly 50 years on this planet.
There was a storm during our stay, with golf ball sized hail. Instinctively, my son-in-law grabbed a couple of comforters from the tents to protect his vehicle. After, we had them professionally cleaned and returned them in the same condition as before. Management insisted that we pay for brand-new comforters to replace them, at full retail cost. We paid it, even though they were used and even though I'm sure they paid less than that when they originally purchased them. After, we asked if they would have helped in the cost to repair our vehicles; we were told they weren't responsible for an act of God. After paying for the comforters, they then tried to unreasonably force us to leave, even though we paid in advance. Overnight, after we posted our reviews, we noticed that dozens of positive reviews suddenly showed up out of thin air. They must have worked overtime creating all kinds of fake accounts and reviews that were all positive.
As if that wasn't enough, noise pollution is a huge problem, with extremely close proximity to the highway, nearly constant helicopter tours throughout the day (that fly directly over the facility), and no seclusion. The swamp coolers on the tents are extremely noisy and largely ineffective. The good news is that they help to drown out the engine brakes from semi-trucks passing on the freeway at night. The facilities were clogged, overflowing, and out of order most of our stay, leaving guests to stand in line to use the one remaining facility, or find the nearest tree or bush, not to mention the smell of raw sewage. They promote it as "glamping," but it's more like setting up a tent in the backyard. The tents are in such close proximity that there is almost no privacy. They say that they clean the accommodations each day, but no one showed up to do this during our four day, three night stay.
My advice, do yourself a favor, if you want a good experience, go anywhere but here. Don't be fooled by the glossy photos and their fake reviews and disparaging comments below. While called "glamping," this is anything but glamorous. Trust me when I say, if I could give "0" stars, I would. By the way, every word of this review happened as stated. Suffice it to say, their attempt to denigrate our group and misrepresent what happened in their response is just sour grapes and an attempt to cover their own shortcomings. I will...
