This is really a combination review of a pickup order and another sit down, and an overall 4.5 stars. Our PU order was not amazing. The fried okra were soggy, but probably a result of the 10 minute ride home. Meats were mostly pretty good except the burnt ends which were not burnt at all, but very fatty.
When we went to sit down, everything was much better. I once again had the okra, and it was crispy and fresh. I also had the brisket and hot Polish sausage. Brisket was super tender and full of smoky flavor, with that perfect "pull" you look for in properly cooked meat. The Polish had a nice kick to it, and was quality.
My guests got the pulled pork and it was incredibly tender. Some of it was very juicy, other parts were a bit drier, but overall, very tasty. Potato salad and coleslaw both got thumbs up. One guest also had the burnt ends, and this time they were properly done - nicely charred and a lovely texture and flavor.
The atmoshpere is a bit dark, being in the back of a strip mall, and it's in need of a good clean and some refreshing. I think many restaurants don't think their guests don't look up - we do! Clean your ventilation ducts, and replace ceiling tiles!
Value - this is pretty good value for BBQ, which can get very pricey. We were under $50 for 3 with sodas and tax, no tip. That is not bad these days, especially given the quality. ...
Read moreUpdate: Broken Bones is always pretty good. I'll keep going. Sometimes the burnt ends are still over sauced but even then, still alright.
Update: Broken Bones had been my favorite and I always get the burnt ends. The last couple times haven't been the same. They're no longer smokey. They're more just cooked and the last time, half of them were pulled like pulled pork, not cubes or "ends". The big trouble is they've been sauced and had much cayenne pepper or something like it. They looked kind of orange with all that on it, and were very spicey. With that much cayenne, you can't taste the meat at all. It's like grocery store taco meat. I'll keep trying but this has been disappointing.
Broken Bones is fantastic! Every visit has been legit and for now, I'd call it best in the Springs area. You'd never think so being that it's in a strip mall. They have burnt ends, which have been very consistent per my visits. One time, I had my wife grab a batch of them, heated them the next day at work and passed them out. They were top notch, great in flavor (right amount of great rub & smoke) and very tender. The ribs & brisket have been quite good every time as well. The sides menu has been a little generic, but in fairness that's not why I'd go anyway. If I have poor visits, I'll change this review but for now, they're...
Read moreAbsolutely the WORST food ever! We are remodeling so have no kitchen or microwave, hence ordered delivery from a restaurant within less than a 5-minute drive. The pulled pork was literally cold like just taken out of the refrigerator - and dry - not edible! The 2 ribs were lukewarm and so dry not edible! The TX toast was cold, limp, burnt on one side and no butter, salt, garlic or any flavoring, none in the bag or offered on the menu. The fries were limp with no salt and no ketchup in the bag or offered on the menu. The coleslaw is bland! The potato salad is bland with only the flavor of occasional pepper. This meal was ALL just thrown in the trash!!!!!! The cherry cobbler was half frozen and has freezer burn smell and taste! We will NEVER order here again! AWFUL! This was the 1st and LAST time we will try this restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT waste your time or money!!!! Just spoke to the 'manager' and the comment was "I will definitely pass that on to the owner". This place does not even deserve one star!!!!!!!!! The only good thing was the very timely and polite delivery...
