So I just had a rather "unique" experience at Clock Tower Grill - a sports bar that I have gone to for years but will not be returning to. Not because of a waitress mistake but rather because of the way the manager spoke to me afterwards.
I brought my kids there for lunch today so I could catch a little of the Browns game and get some work done. When the waitress came to take our drink orders I asked that they not be placed on the table when brought out as I was nervous of water spilling on my computer. In any event, when the waitress came back with the waters she was insistent that the waters be placed on table. She handed the water to me which proceeded to leak (or through condensation drip, but possibly have an amount spill out from sloshing) down right onto my computer. I rushed to dry the Computer off, and luckily the water didn't get into the Computer components. When the waitress came back around several minutes later, I calmly (I didn't yell or even raise my voice), let her know my frustration; specifically I had told her I was worried about the water spilling onto my computer and she had passed the water off to me in leaky/dripping/or poorly sealed water bottles that nearly fried my computer. It wasn't a huge deal - it was more that look - please be careful next time.
Several minutes later the manager came up to our table and confronted me in a tone and manner that bordered alternately between yelling and interrogation and with a position that was as follows: (a) I was in the wrong for bringing my kids and computer into a restaurant and their presence there was an "accommodation" by staff; (b) his waitress was completely in the right; and (c) I was a jerk who he was on the verge of kicking out of his establishment because I suggested his waitress could be more careful when passing water around open electronics. When I simply suggested reasonable people could disagree on these items, the manager disagreed and continued berating us making quite clear that while we weren't kicked out our presence was not wanted. So I put $20 down for our meal (more than its cost which the manager had said he would take care of anyway not as an accommodation but as a means of insulting us) and left.
Now should I have been more careful than I was with the water handoff? Yep, no question. That isn't the point though. Nor is it the point that the waitress probably could have be more careful in passing water to me around open electronics when I had previously expressed my exact concern that they could be damaged by spilling water. The point is that the manager was completely out of line. Calling the presence of my kids at a restaurant an "accommodation" and berating at me for simply asking his waitress to be more careful in the future after my computer nearly gets ruined is not an example of good customer service. Or even barely acceptable customer service.
Unless this gets corrected, I don't feel like going back into Clock Tower. And from the way that manager just talked to me, I don't get the sense they...
Read moreI realy enjoy the sliders here. All the happy hour appetizers are delicious. Funnel cake fries are great. Reasonable prices and great staff.
EDIT. after seeing people eating in the outside dining area ive changed my review to reflect the negligence of violating the health and safety. very sad to see this being allowed... to think i was going to be ordering takeout to help them. if you dont take my health seriously, i cant be customer.
Additional edit. the owner tracked me down to my employer and slandered me stating i am dishonest in a google review from my employer. Ive attached a photo of customers seated at the dining area outside the restaurant.
Last and final Edit, For Matt, you should know that i dont work at the place your giving a bad reviews too... they are a local business and my previous employer. All your doing is hurting a local business who has no affiliation with me. Im sorry you took this review so hard, im sorry covid has affected your business. But i stand by my discomfort when i saw you feeding your parents when dining areas were not suppose to be open. Be upset and angry all you want, i think you have a right to that. You can look up in your transaction but i want you to know i spent hundreds of dollars in your establishment and brought my friends and family into your business on multiple occasions. I wish you would have simply replied to your own review here sharing your thoughts and feelings but i dont think its ok or acceptable or fair for you to comment on another local business who had no responsibility...
Read moreThis review is a long time coming. Clock Tower grill is absolutely a winner of the first plate club and the first visit club. It's our favorite place to go and it's our regular place to go. And it's nice to have both of those things be the same place.
Firstly, the food. There's nothing on the menu that we haven't liked. And I mean it. From appetizer to entree to dessert. Everything has been delicious. I definitely recommend the wings and I would also recommend the chicken tender platter because those chicken tenders are on the next level. And in an economy where things are continually going up they do their best to keep prices low which is really appreciated.
The service is impeccable. That's probably one of our favorite parts is that we know all the servers and they know us. They always take really good care and you never have to wait for anything. We always go on karaoke night and it's fun to be treated a little special by everybody.
I gave five stars for the atmosphere because they deserve it, but there's certainly nothing here that isn't different than your normal Bar and grill in the way that looks. HOWEVER, it's impeccably clean. Which is nice. They do a really great job of making sure they turnover tables and keep the place looking nice and clean which is not something I can say about every bar and grill.
We look forward coming back at every...
