I had an absolutely appalling experience at this restaurant, and I feel compelled to share how poorly the owner treated my friend and me. The food, particularly their poke, used to be a draw, but the owner’s outright rude and unprofessional behavior has ensured we’ll never return. It all started when my friend, trying to be friendly, spoke to the cook in Spanish, his native language. Instead of appreciating the gesture, the owner stormed over and snapped that he was the only one she should be talking to since he takes the orders, not the cook. His tone was condescending and completely uncalled for. My friend, still trying to keep things civil, politely asked to leave sesame seeds off her dish due to an allergy. What happened next was unbelievable—the owner took her plate and deliberately sprinkled sesame seeds all over her food, only to smirk and say, “I wasn’t supposed to do that, I’ll remake it.” It felt malicious and intentional. As if that wasn’t enough, he then turned and yelled at the cook in front of everyone, berating him for no reason. My friend, understandably upset, asked for a refund and called out the owner for his rudeness to both her and his staff. Instead of apologizing, he had the audacity to flip it around and accuse her of being rude! The lack of accountability and sheer arrogance was astounding. This kind of behavior from an owner is unacceptable. No matter how good the poke might be, it’s not worth enduring such disrespect and hostility. I’m done with this place and will be spreading the word about this terrible experience. Save yourself the trouble and eat...
Read moreWe went there to pick up poke bowls for dinner on Sunday evening. There is a choice of 2 or 3 proteins. I selected spicy ahí, salmon & scallops on spring greens. Among the generous assortment of toppings offered was squid salad, which I enjoyed very much. I would have liked lotus root and watermelon radish, but they had daikon, which was fine. There were both jalapeño and Serrano peppers; I added Jalapeños. (I added several other toppings, but don't remember all of them) Wasabi aouli was my dressing/sauce choice and I found it very flavorful with nice but not overpowering heat.
The entrees came with an unexpected serving of miso soup. It is not my favorite soup, so I don't feel qualified to rate it, but it was not bad.
One of the scallops had some shell, but seriously, that was the only negative about the meal, and I don't blame the restaurant. It's not like they shell them in house. Scallops are not offered in every poke house, so I was happy to have them. Plus they were fresh and delicious.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal: everything was very fresh, as it should be for poke. The combination of ingredients was balanced and lovely. I would happily eat there...
Read morePick a poke place elsewhere. One star is for the fair pricing, and that’s where the positive experience stopped. Their freshness is questionable as my greens had some slimey pieces in them and the shrimp was not cold or hot just room temperature. They are appropriately decorated, but the staff is unhelpful and seem pretty rude when you have to ask a question. I assume it trickles down from the gentleman who appears to be the manager or owner who was barking orders at the staff. After a just ok bowl with questionable food safety practices in my opinion, we will be using some of the other poke bowl options not too far away who offer a more pleasurable overall experience. And after reading the attacks on the reviewers who previously displayed issues in their posts, I fully expect the owner or manager to be nasty to me, but it won’t change my choice to give an honest review. I would just think twice about who you spend your money with even further after seeing...
