I recently dined (again!) at Phoever in Columbia Heights, and I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. In transparency, I am posting a second review for this restaurant because I am continually impressed by the food and the owners. From the moment you step in, you're welcomed by the incredibly friendly owners who make you feel right at home. Their warmth and hospitality truly enhance the dining experience.
The highlight of my visit was the Bún bò Huế. I try to always try whatever new weekend special item they have, but you can never go wrong with their Bún bò Huế. It's a dish that stands out not only for its rich and authentic flavors but also for its impeccable presentation. The broth was perfectly balanced, with a depth of flavor that spoke to hours of careful preparation. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the combination of fresh herbs and tender meat made each bite a delight.
What truly sets Phoever apart is the freshness of their ingredients. Every element of the dish, from the crisp bean sprouts to the fragrant basil, was fresh and vibrant. It's clear that the owners take great pride in sourcing the best ingredients, which shines through in every dish. The menu also changes, with new drink additions (be sure to ask about their variety of coffees like salted or egg coffee! ) and tasty weekend specials. As tasty as the classics are, you must be adventurous with this place to truly experience it. I hope that Phoever embraces even more of the coffee/cafe experience! Minnesota needs more Vietnamese coffee shops!
Phoever isn't just a restaurant; it's a slice of Vietnam in Columbia Heights. The authenticity of the flavors, the careful attention to detail, and the genuine friendliness of the staff make it a must-visit for anyone who loves Vietnamese cuisine. I highly recommend giving it a try – you won't be...
Read moreI was looking for a local spot when I stumbled upon this restaurant during my Google search. As with any restaurants I attend, I like to look at the reviews. The majority of the reviews here were really good and there were only a few bad ones.
I had the Pad Thai with their chilli oil (superrrr good) I was surprised to find a Vietnamese restaurant with spicy oil. That’s super hard to come by. The Pad Thai was fantastic.
My wife had the traditional beef pho and the broth was perfect, not overly sweet nor salty, just perfect how I like it. My wife and I also shared an order of Spring Rolls and their peanut sauce is too die for!! We also shared a peach fruit tea which was B2 on the menu and I was told that’s one of their hottest sellers! I can definitely see why as it was super delicious and refreshing, I would definitely recommend that drink to anyone. There’s nothing really to complain about besides the parking in the front is a bit tricky but there’s city construction going on so you can’t really blame them. There’s also a free parking ramp in the back
Overall this place is fantastic. Super friendly service and very delicious food. I’m glad I didn’t let these bad reviews deter me away, they seem like snobby people that don’t have taste buds anyways lol Is it the best food I have ever eaten? No. Is it still very delicious food? Absolutely. We will be back many more...
Read moreEveryone was very nice, but nobody knew what was going on. 4 different people came out to tell us 5 different status of a menu item that we ordered, in the span of the 30 min wait (yes you can order this, no we don’t have this exact one but something very similar, do you want ice in it, no we ran out of this, oh wait we have it but we ran of an ingredient in it). The waitress had no idea what the specials of the day were and told us to go look at it on the board by the door. She then went to look at it herself and came back citing 1 out of 5 items on that board. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there, an hour before it was closed. We were the last and only guests who put in an order at that point. We ordered 3 items, a papaya salad, a roce plate with grilled pork, a deep fried chicken pho (plus a dessert that they didn’t actually have!) The food took forever to come out, with the last item came out about 35 mins after we put in our order. The food quality was very mediocre compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the Twin Cities. The bill was $50 in total, for what would have been about $35 at other Viet restaurants in town with better food. I hope this was an isolated incident, otherwise I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to try...
