I recently dined (again!) at Phoever in Columbia Heights, and I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. In transparency, I am posting a second review for this restaurant because I am continually impressed by the food and the owners. From the moment you step in, you're welcomed by the incredibly friendly owners who make you feel right at home. Their warmth and hospitality truly enhance the dining experience. The highlight of my visit was the Bún bò Huế. I try to always try whatever new weekend special item they have, but you can never go wrong with their Bún bò Huế. It's a dish that stands out not only for its rich and authentic flavors but also for its impeccable presentation. The broth was perfectly balanced, with a depth of flavor that spoke to hours of careful preparation. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the combination of fresh herbs and tender meat made each bite a delight. What truly sets Phoever apart is the freshness of their ingredients. Every element of the dish, from the crisp bean sprouts to the fragrant basil, was fresh and vibrant. It's clear that the owners take great pride in sourcing the best ingredients, which shines through in every dish. The menu also changes, with new drink additions (be sure to ask about their variety of coffees like salted or egg coffee! ) and tasty weekend specials. As tasty as the classics are, you must be adventurous with this place to truly experience it. I hope that Phoever embraces even more of the coffee/cafe experience! Minnesota needs more Vietnamese coffee shops! Phoever isn't just a restaurant; it's a slice of Vietnam in Columbia Heights. The authenticity of the flavors, the careful attention to detail, and the genuine friendliness of the staff make it a must-visit for anyone who loves Vietnamese cuisine. I highly recommend giving it a try – you won't be disappointed!

The price is overall more pricey than the other Vietnamese restaurants. Food came out pretty slow. Staff was nice and professional. Their chili oil is the best I have had so far out of all Vietnamese restaurants. Banh Canh Cua ($17): 4/5 star. The best Banh Canh I have ever had in Minnesota. Broth thickness was perfect and it had nice natural flavor of crab. My only complain was that the softshell crab barely had any crab meat in there. I was basically chewing shells. I was expecting to get quite a good amount of crab meat for a bowl of $17 banh canh. I want to come back a second time, but I’m afraid I’ll get another piece of soft shell crab that has little to no crab meat in it. Pho Dac Biet ($15): 1/5 star. Pho Noodle was doughy and soggy, making the Pho broth cloudy. All I could taste was the doughy flavor. The meat was old and dried. I like Pho Hoa better than the Pho here. Bun Bo Hue ($15): 3/5 star. I like how light the broth is. Definitely add in their chilli oil. Meat was dried and overcooked. If the price is $13, meat is more tender, and the broth has more beefy and lemongrass fragrant, I would give it a 5/5. Mango Boba Milk ($7.5) Wayyyyy tooo priceyy for something that taste like perfume.

I orders the pho dac biet and it was good. The broth was nice. However why do they slice one meatball into 5 pieces to make it look like more? I took it to go because I was tired and wasn't feeling great. Having a bowl of pho to take home was really all I needed but I wanted to give them more business and wanted to try their egg rolls too. One thing I wish they had given more of was the packet of sauces. They should have at least asked how many I wanted. They didn’t even pack utensils or napkins too. I thought the sauces would be in little containers, but they were like ketchup packets. The egg rolls I ordered were under cooked and over priced. Three egg rolls for $9 and there were barely any filling was ridiculous. Go for the pho NOT the egg rolls. Not worth the price at all. Overall decent and I'll go back and check out more things to update this review and maybe give them more stars. Nice people, but it also took forever to get my food with no other customers. I waited over 15-20 minutes and the egg rolls were still under cooked. I shared this story with my neighbor and they had the same issue with the egg rolls. I was looking for a local spot when I stumbled upon this restaurant during my Google search. As with any restaurants I attend, I like to look at the reviews. The majority of the reviews here were really good and there were only a few bad ones.

I had the Pad Thai with their chilli oil (superrrr good) I was surprised to find a Vietnamese restaurant with spicy oil. That’s super hard to come by. The Pad Thai was fantastic.

My wife had the traditional beef pho and the broth was perfect, not overly sweet nor salty, just perfect how I like it. My wife and I also shared an order of Spring Rolls and their peanut sauce is too die for!! We also shared a peach fruit tea which was B2 on the menu and I was told that’s one of their hottest sellers! I can definitely see why as it was super delicious and refreshing, I would definitely recommend that drink to anyone. There’s nothing really to complain about besides the parking in the front is a bit tricky but there’s city construction going on so you can’t really blame them. There’s also a free parking ramp in the back

Overall this place is fantastic. Super friendly service and very delicious food. I’m glad I didn’t let these bad reviews deter me away, they seem like snobby people that don’t have taste buds anyways lol Is it the best food I have ever eaten? No. Is it still very delicious food? Absolutely. We will be back many more...

Everyone was very nice, but nobody knew what was going on. 4 different people came out to tell us 5 different status of a menu item that we ordered, in the span of the 30 min wait (yes you can order this, no we don’t have this exact one but something very similar, do you want ice in it, no we ran out of this, oh wait we have it but we ran of an ingredient in it). The waitress had no idea what the specials of the day were and told us to go look at it on the board by the door. She then went to look at it herself and came back citing 1 out of 5 items on that board. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there, an hour before it was closed. We were the last and only guests who put in an order at that point. We ordered 3 items, a papaya salad, a roce plate with grilled pork, a deep fried chicken pho (plus a dessert that they didn’t actually have!) The food took forever to come out, with the last item came out about 35 mins after we put in our order. The food quality was very mediocre compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the Twin Cities. The bill was $50 in total, for what would have been about $35 at other Viet restaurants in town with better food. I hope this was an isolated incident, otherwise I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to try...
