Update 3/4/2023 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It's been a while & they've revamped the space, the menu, and ordering style since our last visit. More on that later. Pictured is their Birria Quesa Tacos with a side of Sanchez rice & jalapeño ranch sauce for their chips & salsa. First, these are fresh restaurant made corn taco tortillas, which set this meal apart from the start. You wouldn't think it matters, but it 100% does. Their interpretation of the traditional beef consommé is interesting, but not in a bad way. It is thicker than you'll find at most places, which IMO concentrates the flavor better. The shredded beef was plentiful & these two filled me up from being hangry. My wife had chicken quesadillas, which were made with fresh rolled flour tortillas. It matters. If it's your first time (or you haven't been since their refresh) the layout may be confusing. Two smart pads are at the door for menu ordering & payment, and then you self-serve your fountain drinks & sit down. The order pads allow plenty of customization, so kudos to whoever developed them for Peppercorn. 👍🏻
I wish they would expand & take over one of the spaces next to them, but I understand how rent is crazy nowadays. It was good to see it full when we arrived, but we also saw a couple of people leave due to perceived wait with the crowd at the front door. I want to keep this place a secret, but also want it to wildly succeed. Fresh makes the difference, and for great food give them a try.
Today we drive by Peppercorn and gave it a try, and boy are we glad we did! I had the Poblano chicken & my wife had the Texas baked potato with pulled pork. The menu shows pulled pork or chopped brisket, but the owner offered to put fajita chicken or even ground beef on as a topping (something to think about for next time). We also got the Tumbleweeds (fried onion straws) which were excellent with the kicked up ranch dipping sauce. This place does NOT disappoint and we are looking forward to many other meals here. The owner is from Austin, TX and brought his love for Texas staples with him to Tennessee. Eat local whenever you can! You support a family instead of a faceless...
Read moreWe finally made it! I've been wanting to come here for a while. We are SO glad we made it! It was INCREDIBLE! We have been 2 times now. My hubs wanted to go back the very next day after our 1st visit, but I made him wait a week. But to be honest I was craving it the entire week! We had the Brisket queso and salsa Verde with chips to start. The Chips were light and crispy, perfect for scooping up the queso and salsas. We also ordered the jalapeño ranch dip which was so creamy and had so many herbs inside. Delicious!! For our drink of choice was the Rum Runner. To say they are dangerous is an understatement, someone definitely knows how to perfectly mix the alcohol and juices on this one. It went down WAY TOO easy!! If I hadn't had to drive I would have been having more! Our dinner selection was amazing as well. Every bite was incredible. The hubs opted for The "Dude" burrito which you can select your type of beans, black or refried. He chose refried, then it is packed full of carnitas and a smoky brisket, that you could smell the second he cut into it, Then covered with queso and a chili sauce if you would like , he just had queso. It was so packed full after all of our chips and dips he could only eat half. I opted for the Quesabirria tacos. The tortilla was great, definitely dipped in the consome prior to grilling and had a Delicious mix of meat and melty cheese. I had the cheesy rice as my side....and so did the hubs. I ended up eating both because they were soooo Delicious. I did give the hubs a bite but he was too full! ;) it was a great atmosphere, small but plenty of room for a large party if needed, both time we visited the family table was packed. We had a nice little table in the corner both times! We both had The "Dude" our 2nd visit and we had the chips with the flight of dips. Again we had the yummy Rum Runner! We will definitely be back it is...
Read moreJust had some of the best Tex-Mex I’ve had since living in TN! Peppercorn Scratch Kitchen in Columbia. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while now based on the local’s raving about it and now I know why. Do not let the size of this place and the fast casual dining system throw you off…this place is the real deal 🤩 It was hard to choose from but I decided on “The Dude” burrito and it was fantastic.Everything here was so fresh and full of flavor, it rivaled higher end full service Mexican in the Nashville area. The chips and salsa were amazing right out of the gate. Rarely do I get a salsa that makes me perk up, but you can tell they really care anout their quality. Smoky chipolte and roasted tomatillo goodness. The house made chips were light and not overly salty like some places. Everything is made in-house including the hand rolled tortillas, sauces and desserts. My Dude was with carntitas, smoked brisket, black beans and smothered with a delicious red chilie and queso sauce. The house Sanchez Rice was fluffy and full of flavor. The hard working local owners, Jenny and Jason, were so kind, as well as the rest of the staff. Jenny checked in us as new customers and welcomed us to the neighborhood. All I can say is we can’t wait to go back and try some of the other menu items. Peppercorn will be in our rotation often and if you happen to be up this way, for sure worth a stop for a quick delicious Tex-Mex lunch or dinner. Highly recommend. Worth the drive. Thanks for the delicious...
