The 5th Down Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Columbia

My husband and I had an impromptu lunch at this Bar and Grill. With an order of chicken nachos and a fish sandwich we were not disappointed. While no perfect by any means, the fish sandwich with onion rings was good. The bun (bread) needed to be more sturdy to hold that much fried fish, and the onion rings fried perfectly lacked any seasoning, salt or otherwise. The onion rings were hand battered and crunchy. The lack of seasoning was evident from the first bite, and difficult to hand salt after removing from the fryer. The ambiance of the place is what you would expect from a local “watering hole” bar and grill. Our service at a high top table was very good, personable and attentive. It appeared to me there were regulars seated at the large, semi-circle bar. Two local Columbia Police were there to pickup a lunch order and everyone was very cordial toward them. My husband Rowdy and I was looking for a local hangout while we are in Columbia working and happened upon this place and it was great. They have a good burger and the chicken tenders are very good. But the best part for us was the owner and bartenders, they are great. We asked for Bacardi Gold, the drink of my choice, but they didn't have it. So I asked if they would add it. Most places just laugh and never follow through, but she added it to her list and we were pleasantly surprised on our next visit when we found it at the bar! After a couple of visits that small bottle was empty and a new bigger bottle delivered! Chicken strips and tater tots were nice and hot, right out of the kitchen (server "warned" me). Typical taste--like you'd make out of the freezer at home. No special seasoning, but tasty. Ranch dip was a little thin. Only water to drink; needed to get up for refill (waited a couple of minutes). Also needed to get up for the ticket.
