Quick Review: Honestly, such a gem to find since moving here. I love viet food🥲. SOLID southern style pho with a wide variety, well priced menu. The Bahn mi was also bomb, and will definitely try more fillings! Pro move is to get a Bahn mi, to eat with the pho. All the other apps/snacks were good add ons.
Details: Atmosphere: Homey vibe with some 80s music in the background. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone’s kid was working the register. Service: you write down what you want on a server note pad. Might be weird for some, but I like it lol. The gentlemen serving us was so nice.
Food: Pho Tai Nam Overall Score (5/5) *Spicy Scale (0/5) unless you add jalapeños, Big Eater approved, clean flavor profile: Southern style pho has thinner noodles, with lots of toppings like beansprouts, Thai basil, jalapeños, and sauces. Everything cooked to perfection! Meat was tender, noodles were just right and the broth is sooooo soothing. Drank that jawn up at the end (not too salty). Only use sauce to dip meat in.
Bahn Mi w Grilled Beef Overall Score (4/5) *Spicy Scale (0/5) unless you add jalapeños, Big Eater approved: The sandwich is the size of my forearm. Comes with meat inside but all the toppings on the side. With that said you got to build your own sandwich. Fine with me, cuz I filled it up with all the jalapeños. Meat was flavorfully marinated. Pickled veg and toppings standard. The bread was soft and doesn’t cut up your mouth. Don’t want to impede stuffing this in my mouth. Pause.
Guo Cuon Tom Thit Overall Score (3/5) *Spicy Scale (0/5): Standard Spring roll. Peanut sauce was very savory.
Cha Gio Overall Score (4/5) *Spicy Scale (0/5): Super crispy and delicious filling. Good layering on the inside. My fiancé is very picky with fried spring rolls, and wanted me to give it 5/5 lol
Chao Tom Overall Score (3/5) *Spicy Scale (0/5): The shrimp cakes are a nice snack. Soft, chewy, good grill flavor. Would definitely rather have as a vermicelli or rice dish rather than by itself. Sugar cane skewer is fun to gnaw on afterward.
*Overall Score (1-5) 1: actively avoid 2: rather not order 3: would rather cook, but would order if lazy 4: damn good 5: I am blessed to be eating this meal **Spicy scale (0-5): 0=no reason to be spicy 1=no detectable spice 2=not initially spicy, but after thoughts of spicy 3=initially spicy and some after thoughts of spice 4= initially spicy and need water to continue meal 5= need water on first...
Read moreI ate a delicious and filling supper last night [9-14-2022] at Hương Vietnamese Restaurant at 1270 Morse Rd. in the "Northland" neighborhood of Columbus.
I had been planning to attend an "organizing" meeting that evening at a private home about a mile away so I had decided to travel first [via Uber] to Hương Vietnamese Restaurant, to eat my meal, and then to walk to my "organizing" meeting.
My food choice for last night had been Cơm Chiên [fried salmon with fried rice, seasoned in garlic marinade, lightly fried, and served with fried rice].
I had studied the Hương Vietnamese Restaurant menu on-line in advance of my visit which had been very helpful. The names of most of the food items on that menu are in Vietnamese [that had been transliterated into the Roman alphabet in which English is written] though the descriptions of the food items [in smaller type] are written in English.
Some of the characters in the names on the menu include unfamiliar-to-me diacritical marks so I had no idea how to pronounce those names.
However, the menu [both on-line and printed on paper] includes many pictures. I had been able to hold my menu open while my server had been present at my table and then point to a picture of my food choice rather than having to attempt to pronounce its name.
My Cơm Chiên had been delicious and had included a nicely-sized piece of salmon and a large serving of fried rice. I only occasionally eat salmon so being able to eat salmon last night had been a particular treat.
The service at Hương Vietnamese Restaurant had been friendly and helpful; I am glad that I had chosen to eat there last night.
If you are in the "Northland" neighborhood of Columbus and are looking for some delicious Vietnamese food, I strongly recommend Hương...
Read moreI used to come here often when I first moved to Columbus. I haven't returned in years because of the older male server. After Covid, I gave it another try, the menu definitely went down hill. Most of the time I called, the girl would said they ran out of a certain dish early in the day. Today, I asked for 1 of the appetizer, she said they don't have time to make it. Then take it off the menu would be the right thing to do! We stopped by anyway to pick up some ready made food on the counter. The bao (pork filled white round ball) was really bad! The dough was mushy and melt in your mouth. It supposed to be chewy and fluffy in layers that you can peel off each layer. The worse representation of a Viet Banh Bao for those who don't know what to expect. The mini banh tet on the counter went tex mex with black beans, again, this doesn't represent the Viet Banh Tet. Someone is changing the traditional recipes and it's not good, not cool! The order took 15 minutes. The older man took our money and told us to "wait outside" saying there is no table for waiting inside. This is during a winter day where the temperature is 6 degrees. I was baffled by his mind set because he should know that I can see right into the dining room, and there were at least 10 empty tables. We went to sit in our car, run the heat to wait. Maybe they have too much business to care for a little courtesy or quality? There are not too many Viet restaurants in Columbus. Out West or South, this place would go out of...
