Worst experience ever at an eating place in Columbus! When I first heard of Jill’s Diner, I was really excited to try out a local diner with authentic American breakfast. Finally made it to the diner (their schedule doesn’t always work since they’re closed most of the time). And to my surprise, it was nothing like I had expected. The waitress took 45 mins to get breakfast. I was fine with that hoping the food would be really good to make up for it. I ordered from A La Carte - a two eggs omelette with onions, peppers, tomatoes and jalapeños. When I finally got my food 45 mins later, it had bacon in my omelette. I am strictly vegetarian and this made me lose my appetite. But then again I thought it’s a mistake and they will fix it. It happens! I asked the waitress to change the omelette to the one without bacon. And I received the coldest look ever from her! As if it was my fault that I can’t eat bacon 🤷🏻♀️. But I was like okay that's fine! it happens! They have a lot of customers right now. They'll fix it right away! She got me back an omelette with 1 egg instead of 2! And i can literally count the pieces of onions, pepper and tomato pieces on my hands - probably like 5 pieces of all veggies in total. And to top it all off, they charged me $8 for it. While their menu clearly states a 2 egg from A La Carte is $2.60 and $0.35 for every extra topping - which means I should have been charged $4 in total. I asked the same waitress working as a cashier to give me an itemized bill. And boy did she gave me even more attitude! She did give me a bill but it had NO Items listed for price. Only that so and so dollars for tax, and so and so dollars if you pay by card! And when I said I want price per item, she just said “your omelette was $7 something”. And that’s fine. Money is not a problem. But their service and their ethics - god bless them on that!
First, they make me wait. Second, they ruin my breakfast. Third, they charge me twice the money. Fourth, they have an attitude on top of it!
Good luck to these guys for staying open with all the damn attitude they have towards...
Read moreNot accepting credit cards: losing business Food isn't like you'd expect at an old town restaurant.
Credit cards - We stopped by first, had to leave to get cash. No problem for us. But we did notice while sitting there, I counted 12 people who walked up and left because they didn't have cash just in the 44 min we were there. They didn't return shortly after either. I know having running credit card machines can get expensive... but just the business from those 12 people would have paid the fees.
Food quality- No one expects fine dining at hole-in-the-wall diners. But we were really disappointed. We moved here from Seymour which has two small diners we frequented on the weekends, Larrison's and Betty's Townhouse. Great breakfast and atmosphere.
The country fried steak was frozen and deep fried, but oulled from an open container, so it was freezer burnt and cheap. The biscuits were hard on the bottom and soggy on top. The gravy was good, but cold instantly because the food was served on cold plates.
.... just not what we expected and were hoping we could find a little diner in Cbus we liked. Jill's diner sadly won't...
Read moreI'm sitting in Jill's Downtown Diner enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee. No one is rushing me to hurry and I'm having the most wonderful breakfast. There is so much to love here! First of all, it's a true diner from the swivel stools at the counter to the person cooking the food at the griddle . When regulars walk in they are greeted by name and treated like old friends. It's the kind of place that you can come alone and not feel awkward. I saw a mom and her young son here, 2 friends laughing and catching up, couples and lots of people sitting alone at the counter. The counter is a great place to sit because you can chat with the nice folks behind the counter. There is a lot of fun, friendly chatter between employees and customers and I love that! It makes me want to be a regular! My breakfast was delicious and the coffee was perfect. Jill's Diner is open Monday-Friday from 6 am to 2 pm. Saturday 7-1 and Sunday 8-1. You can get breakfast anytime they are open. They also do lunch. Check out the menu in my photos. They are located...
