Meisers is a fantastic discovery! My wife attended Northwestern University and lived in North Chicago. This bar offers the best deep-dish Chicago-style pizza that she has had in the Columbus area. I know this might sound controversial, but she preferred the pizza here even more than that from Giordano's in Chicago. The pizza was simply outstanding. We ordered the 16-inch size, the only option available, with pepperoni and mushrooms. There was enough pizza for four, possibly six people, especially if you also ordered the cheesy bread, which looked great, but we decided not to get it.
The bar has a neighborhood vibe reminiscent of places in New York. It has a humble appearance, with TVs everywhere, two pool tables, and even a dartboard. To place your order, you must go into the bar and turn left to find the counter right in front of the kitchen. The beer selection was impressive, featuring craft beers and classic options like Black Label and Old Style, all at reasonable prices. We visited on a Tuesday, so there were no servers; we ordered our drinks from the bar and food directly from the kitchen.
The tavern is secluded on a dimly lit road in Upper Arlington, not far from the OSU campus. It has a parking lot, which is convenient. While parking might be an issue on a Friday or Saturday night, plenty of spaces were available on Tuesday.
My wife has said this is a place she...
Read moreA true dive bar on the edge of Grandview a few blocks from Lane Ave. Filled with day drinking 20 something year olds, getting hammered playing pool and having loud conversations on the front porch. You order food in the back of the bar and it looks like it's run by 1 person with only a few ovens.
Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon to try their pizza since Google reviews indicated it should be some of the best around. Was not disappointed, so kudos to the cook.
Ordered a large Traditional White Meister with mushrooms, a large Pepperoni Deep Dish, and an order of Pepperoni Meister bites. All of that cost $48, fair price for how good the food was.
Their traditional is basically hand tossed, ample toppings, good sauce, good cheese.
The deep dish is not Chicago style (it's not stuffed) it's more of a hybrid between a really deep Pan Pizza and Chicago style. The sauce is on top of the cheese and toppings, not below. Tons of cheese and the sauce is wonderful - has a little spice to it. The crust is crunchy, buttery, garlicky and excellent.
The Meister bites were ok, nothing special. It's kind of a thin dough with pepperoni and cheese inside, with sauce on the side.
Overall the pizza is a 4.8, Meister bites a 4.2. since Google doesn't allow decimal reviews and because of how good the pizza was for the price, I...
Read moreI've been here several times. This last time was the busiest I've ever seen it! Found out at the time of this review that Thursdays are $1 beer nights. We don't drink so that didn't matter. We went for the pizza. Oh, the pizza! It's oooohhhh sooooo good!!! At the time of this review, the deep dish is $25 for a 1 topping. This time we went with banana peppers. It takes roughly 30 minutes for the pizza. Was planning on playing some pool as we waited, but that didn't happen because there were so many folks. It was pretty loud with the music playing. Every time there has been a good amount of pop punk playing from the jukebox, this time was no expectation. Patrons ranged from young college kids to older adults in possibly their early 70s. I'm glad they were busy so they can make that money, but hopefully next time, there won't be as many folks so we can get in at least 1...
