So, you drive up to this unassuming food truck. There is no warning sign. No signal that your life is about to forever change course. You're completely unprepared and off guard for what is about to happen. But what sign could possibly have prepared you?
He hands you your food. The beef rib is a gigantic, Fred Flintstone sized hunk of heaven. The smell of fat and juices rise into the air. Can it taste as good as it looks? No!
It's better. Is it the best thing you've ever tasted? Have you ever truly tasted anything before? Can a beef rib be transformed through some arcane wizardry into the meaning of life?
You rip through the rest of the menu. You're not sure what he's figured out to make everything taste so good, but you're pretty sure it must be illegal. Pulled pork should not make you forget the name of your first born child. A macaroni and cheese side dish should not make you see colors. A sandwich should not make you swoon.
But seriously, best barbecue I've had in the State of Ohio, hands down. Possibly anywhere I've ever been. His seasoning, in particular, is on point, and chatting with him, he has some secret ingredients for some of these recipes you wouldn't believe. It's a new business, you would think he'd have some kinks to iron out, but no, he clearly is bringing decades of experience and knowledge from his Texas background to bear here, and it's not ok that he is being allowed to deal weapons of mass destruction without a license. My only complaint is I needed some more of his sweet local and carolina sauces to pair with this, I ran out halfway through the brisket and that was not ok. Don't be shy asking for extra. Hidden gem, never going to order barbecue anywhere else in...
Read moreThis is the absolute best bbq place in Columbus (we have tried a lot of places over the years).
As a fair warning, you will wait for the food (both to order and once ordered to be prepared/packed) but it’s worth it!
We tried just about everything we could as a family, just to see how the food would be.
We ended up getting:
Meat: 1 lb of brisket pulled pork sandwich Texas sausage rack of short ribs
Sides: mac and cheese -brisket baked beans potato salad
Dessert: 7 up cake Coca Cola cake
All sauces are home made and excellent.
The brisket is perfectly seasoned. He even had us try his newest fully ground brisket burger, which was incredible.
The pulled pork sandwich was tender and yummy. It didn’t require any sauce, but I tried it with the local Texas which was light and just enough to season without overwhelming the meat.
The ribs fell off the bone. It was so good another family member who hadn’t planned on eating came in to grab one, then a few more!
The sausage was well seasoned and tasty.
The Mac and cheese had yummy spices as well as the potato salad.
I absolutely loved the brisket baked beans which have multiple types of beans, bits of brisket that can be tasted and are not overwhelmingly saucy.
And I cannot recommend enough picking up the cakes. You won’t regret it. The cocoa cola cake was just chocolatey enough without too much richness. The 7 up was my husband’s favorite as he liked the...

Whether you’re an old school Texas BBQ stalwart or craving a little innovation this is your place. I’ve tried many BBQ joints including the famed Franklins and Snow’s. In my humblest opinion this is a serious contender if not victor. Best ribs and brisket I have had. If you thought you were a Kansas City or Memphis style bbq fan…think again. Mr. Steele is laying down some Texas fast draw lead with this food truck. Per most truly authentic barbecue joints you’re not coming here for the ambience. Nothing polished about it which adds to its allure.
His passion is clearly evident when he talks about his food. Mr. Steele said if he knows that cut isn’t going to be the best piece he ever put in his mouth he’s not going to serve it to you.
Every detail is meticulously taken into account. Down to where he sources his wood, how he cuts it, how he places it in the smoker, personality of each one of us smokers and how it burns the wood and circulates the smoke, how and when to wrap the meat, etc. But most importantly that ever sought after “sixth sense” to know when your meat is done.
For pit (peet) sake he’s saving those succulent brisket drippings to make homemade tortillas on his custom tortilla press in his truck.
His passion is clearly cooking barbecue and if you’re lucky he might even let you pay him for it....
