I would first like to say I have enjoyed my time at Crossfit Grandivew. I have been a member for over two years now. I usually attend the afternoon and evening classes. I am not a professional crossfitter but I have an appreciation for the intensity and camaraderie in this sport. I have also been a member of two other crossfit gyms within Ohio and this one I would say ranks second among the three I have had the experience to be apart of. The people here are all very nice and welcoming. It is an inclusive atmosphere. I will break down this review in two separate categories by facility, class experience.
Facility: The new facility is a major upgrade form the previous facility. You now have showers, multiple stalls, and separate bathrooms for men and woman. It also seems to be more clean and sterile. The classes are divided into squares so everyone has their own area, which is nice. The equipment is in really good shape considering the amount of participants this gym sees on a daily basis. There are also more than one drinking fountain which is an upgrade. However, it doesn’t appear they change the filters very often for the water. The cost is approximately $130-$140 for the crossfit side. The other side is Grandview Barbell, which is a nice addition. That membership is approximately $125. If you pay for crossfit classes and want 24/7 access to barbell as well, you will pay the crossfit fee and an additional $35-$40. Which is another issue I have with the gym. If you are paying for the crossfit side, you should have automatic access to the barbell side (weights and equipment). I hope they consider changing this, but with the new facility, you can tell they are running a business and need the extra income. The clock and TV placement throughout the new facility makes very little sense. There should be multiple TV’s and clocks placed throughout for every participant to see. Again, these are all timed workouts. Key takeaway: include barbell equipment when you’re paying full price for the crossfit classes.
Class experience: Over the last two years there have been multiple instructors coaching these classes. By far, the best and most passionate is Brandon (the owner). He is the lifeblood and glue that holds this gym together. Over the last 6 months he has stopped coaching and decided to spend more time with his family. Brandon was always willing to help a participant with their form and achieve their personal goals. The other coaches do not take this approach. They want you to book a personal training session and spend more money if they are going to help you. This is very apparent. The other coaches that I have experienced are James, Drake, and Scott. The class sizes are anywhere from 15-30 people depending on the time you attend. One point I would like to make is the music in this gym is sometimes tough to listen to. Each coach plays different music. It is along the lines of an upbeat mix where songs will last 30 seconds and then switch. A lot of the time it is also techno or EDM music/mixes. It makes it very difficult to get into a rhythm and push yourself within the workout. I have seen many members bring headphones instead of listening to the class music.
Overall, the gym is a great experience if you are in the central Ohio region. If you want to say you do crossfit and work on some movements, this...
Read moreI came to Columbus because I was recruited by the OSU fencing team. My goal was to make it to the NCAAs as an individual, but after a year of practicing 6+ hours every day, I was heartbroken to find out that the coaches would never give me an opportunity to compete and still didn't know my name. I've wanted to be a part of the CFGV community since coming to Columbus but didn't walk through the doors for 3 years because I was intimidated by everyones athleticism and the price. But since joining I regret not joining sooner.
The community in this box is beyond better and closer knit than that of my varsity team. The programming is incredible and I can see and feel myself progressing in the short time I've been here. The coaches all introduced themselves to me when I first came and they truly pay attention to every single athlete in class--If someone's position looks incorrect, it gets fixed. If a movement can be better performed, the coaches let that athlete know. I've tried working out by myself at global gyms, but this is next level. The workout of the day is always fun (and every third Thursday of the month is a partner workout!), but open space can also be utilized as an open gym (so long as it doesn't disrupt the main class, of course). It never gets boring here and I feel more confident in myself than I ever have.
If you're just visiting town and dropping in, the gym is always clean, its a large space with all of the crossfit equipment, and there's a little shop with pre-workout drinks, snacks, and proteins shakes/powders.
I love this place so much and definitely recommend dropping in to anyone willing to try. It'll be the best decision...
Read moreWarning, this is a lengthy review that will be good for someone new trying to jumpstart their fitness, experienced athletes, and drop-ins like myself. I reached out to CrossFit Grandview a week prior to my arrival, I was able to sign my waiver and arrange a price for my 2 week stay in Columbus, OH. As a drop-in, I can say that the community was very welcoming and their facility has the space and the availability for you to do your own programming or you can jump into a regular class, or a more advanced (L2) if you pass their movement assessment. I had the ability to do both their regular classes and L2… their programming is superb, they ensure that you as a member have a good warm-up before your actual workout. The workouts are challenging well put together. If you are new and want to jumpstart your fitness, during my time there I noticed how they had an on board program called Elements, this is where a coach is teach a new member all the foundational movements. This helps the new members learn the basics before they get to enjoy and sweat with the regular classes. I don’t have all the details, but if you have been curious about CrossFit, definitely reach out to them, YOU WON’T REGRET IT. Whether you’re a local, a traveler, or a newbie, this should be your choice to get a good workout with a great box and an...
