I ordered a two tiered cake for my son's 1st birthday and was offered a smash cake free of charge. I picked up the cake on his actual birthday, drove from the store to the Columbus Airport to pick up my friend and then to our house on Ft Benning. The cake was set on the floor of my truck, snug behind the back of my drivers seat and the back seat (one of the workers actually put it there) and I drove carefully between locations. Between the maybe 30 minutes the cake was in my truck (would've been 20 if I'd gone straight home) the top tier shifted and fell toward the opening of the box. I didn't know until I got home and went to take the cake out of the box.
When we got home my husband and I attempted to put the top piece back on top but after realizing that we'd probably do more damage to the cake than there already was; I called Pat-A-Cakes and told them what happened. One of the ladies told me to bring it in first thing (9 a.m.) so they could fix it and I could have it for the party by 2. The next morning I brought it in and they said, "oh it doesn't have rods in it to hold up the second tier". I left the cake with them, they said it'd be a few hours. I went to Party City to fill up balloons and received a phone call with them telling me I'd have to pay another $70 to fix the cake - the original price I'd paid. I didn't have the money so they told me $50 was the least they could charge.
I was basically called a liar and the woman on the phone told me that the damage to the cake would not of happened unless I dropped the cake. First off, I have integrity; if I had dropped the cake, I would have admitted my screw up and paid for them to fix it. My husband ended up calling while I was getting the balloons and told me to go pick up the cake. I guess the mother (the owner of the store) had fixed the cake free of charge. I gave her a hug and thanked her profusely. They told my husband they never meant to imply I was lying but that they'd never seen a cake slide like that without having dropped it.
Although it was a hassle in the beginning I am grateful for Pat-A-Cakes and their willingness to fix my son's birthday cake. It turned out nicely and tasted delicious. I would recommend them again; but I'd strongly recommend having someone hold the cake while driving, instead of setting it on the floor of the...
Read moreI reached out via message the same place that I placed my order that was a rush job . I order 24 cupcakes that wasn’t ready when I got to the location. The worker or owner asked how could she help when I told her I was there to pick up the 24 cupcakes that I order a week or two earlier. She replied” omg I totally forgot give me a moment. She went to back grabbed a a large pan of cupcakes walk to the other size and placed icing on them . No big deal it’s fine my daughter wanted the cupcakes for her small birthday party so ill waited. About 10 mins later she’s comes back out showed them to me which I’m like ok maybe she put icing at the bottom like ALL THE OTHER BAKERY’s I SHOPPED WITH. No she didn’t neither did she tell me how to transport them like she the guest ahead of me. Still I placed them on the floor of my car bc hey she put icing or something at the bottom so they won’t move bc she placed them in a huge cake box . Long story short my I wasted $75 on cupcakes that were touching and didn’t make it to the party . My cupcakes was packaged wrong no cupcake holders nothing . I’m very disappointed bc they fell to respond or take ownership. I spoken with three other bakery’s that stated the cupcakes should have never been placed in a CAKE BOX if it wasn’t a cupcake cake which it wasn’t. Also the Icing started running from the cupcakes. I reached out to the bakery on SATURDAY today is Wednesday...
Read moreI only tried the chess square and mini cake, but they were both very good. Actually, the chess square, a slice of what I assume is chess pie, is amazing; it's probably now one of my favorite desserts I've ever had! The top is crunchy, the middle is a buttery, cream cheese layer, and the crust is like a blondie.
The mini cake is good as far as regular yellow cake goes; I'm just not a fan of how sweet and fatty icing is in general, but the cake part is moist and fluffy. The icing has an airy, whipped texture and a slight grainy crunch from the sugar. My main complaint is that they should have a different size box (and preferably something more environmentally-friendly than Styrofoam) for this item. As you can see, the beautiful, decorative icing unfortunately got squished by the top of the box. I think $8.20 for a tiny cake like this is a little pricey, too, especially if all the hard work they're putting into decorating it goes to waste when the box is just going...
