Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Columbus

This location has always been great! Quick service and friendly workers who are always happy to offer suggestions. I've been coming here about 4 times a week for the past 6 months (embarrassingly so lol) and have never had a negative experience until tonight. Before I ordered, they expressed that the internet was down so things might take a bit longer than normal; totally fine.. not their fault and they were really polite about it. The unfortunate part was, when I got home and was handing out everyone's orders, one of them took a bite into their custard and found a long hair that he had to pull out. And to make it worse... when he decided to just eat the waffle cone instead, the waffle cone was very stale. It's just a bummer because I thought they would have been more careful to check these types of things before sending the customer away with them. I would say I'm pretty hesitant to go back now. I thought about having it catered for an event I'm throwing but I feel like maybe I'd be safer just picking up some Lindy's...

Tried it for the first time after reading reviews that were so helpful. I never understood initially what ice and other items that were here. But upon trying it all makes sense and they are so delicious. I had tried the cotton candy ice and Chocolate strawberry concrete(a type of drink there with ice and frozen custard). Cotton candy as a flavor feels very enticing on the first few spoons but then it was too sweet for my palette, nevertheless it is a good one. The thing that i loved and will try again is the chocolate strawberry concrete. It was so milky and with the correct amount of sugar, that it can be slurped up real fast 😋. Talking about this location’s service, employees were real helpful and suggesting what can a first timer like me could get. You have to stand at the counter look at the menu and order what you would like , and sit in the area designated outside to enjoy your drink or ice. Perfect for Covid-19 phase we are loving with appropriate 6 feet...

We order the EXACT same item every time we visit, and it’s presented differently with different portions EVERY TIME. I don’t understand how consistency is that much of an issue. Also, when someone orders custard with extra hot fudge and is given a small cup filled with custard and hot fudge completely falling off of the sides, it’s not ideal. We even asked two times for an empty sundae bowl to place it in and she refused to give us one, knowing the fudge was all over our hands as we had to pay for it. It was great to get that much custard, but don’t charge for extra hot fudge when you didn’t even have space on top for the normal amount and now you’re making us walk back to the car with a huge mess.
