Finally able to eat at the new location and love the available parking in close proximity to the building over the previous location, I’m really pleased that they’re now in an easier to access location, and finally the downtown Columbus area has a great breakfast/lunch diner! I had the Cowboy Platter (I have not, nor will I ever be a cowboy or western icon, but I didn’t think that Bass Reeves would take offense to my ordering it) and itwas delightful. The space has seating for…let me live count chairs without looking creepy…approximately 98 at 9 booths and 18 table clusters in their current set up. Plenty of natural light enters in through windows and doors and I’m really excited by what appears to be a pie case at the entrance.
As to service, my time from drink order (retired standard of water and coffee) was less than 90 seconds in a moderately busy time frame (about 25 people eating in the restaurant) and about 5 and a half minutes for my order to arrive after I placed it with my waitress/establishment owner. Staff continues to be friendly and engaged.
The establishment is clean on the inside, I have no complaints and the prices are incredibly affordable. As a person who works in the downtown area, I’m VERY excited that this has been added as an early morning option and has table space large enough for coffee/lunch meetings.
Only downside? If you’re approaching from Third Street, there isn’t clear signage, but as they recently opened at this location (less than 7 days ago) I assume that this will be rectified. In lieu of signage, open your window and go full Scooby-Doo and Shaggy and just follow the smell of American Diner…try not to float out of your window if you’re driving, though!
PHOTO UPDATE: who takes pictures of bathrooms? Apparently this guy. Single home men’s and women’s restroom, men’s is wide enough and has an appropriate sink for those in wheelchairs; assistance rails as well....
Read moreI stopped here for lunch at Noon on a Tuesday and the place was packed. There is not a lot of atmosphere in this place, but it had a lot of tables and could serve a bunch of people.
My server came right over and gave me a menu and took my drink order. The menu was not large, but there should be something for everyone. When she came back with my drink, I ordered the fried bologna sandwich with double meat. I also ordered the house chips instead of the French fries.
After quite a wait, approx. 20 minutes my food came out and I noticed the sandwich was on a bun instead of white bread as shown on the menu. Also, there were three pieces of bologna there. If this was double the meat, the normal portion only had 1-1/2 slices?? I thought that was weird. It was served with American cheese. The sandwich was good, and the bologna was tasty and on the greasy side, but delicious.
The house made chips were spectacular… I would get those everyday if I lived in the area. They were crisp and had a body to them because they were on the thick side. They were very good.
Overall, this was a great place to eat. The food was good. The service was great and the prices were really reasonable. I will stop here again when I’m...
Read moreIf you want to eat somewhere that is legit homemade cooking then this is it! No where in Columbus compares to Rohde's Diner. We have been to all the mom and pop restaurants, all the "hole in the wall" restaurants and not one compares to here. Everything is legitimately homemade and cooked to order. Today was my first time eating here and I can say I will not eat breakfast anywhere else while living in Columbus, Indiana. You get twice the portion of any big name restaurants at half the price. This place hands down is the best. And the atmosphere and service here was as good as the food. I've never been to eat anywhere that I literally felt like I was home. I felt like I was down home at my mamaw's house. I can keep going on about this place.but you'll have to try it for yourself. There aren't enough review stars for this place! Thank you all for the best time I've ever had at a restaurant, my family and I will...
